Team meeting in Colorado Springs

Some of you spoke of Tressel going to OSU, and Meyer going to UF, and it didn't bother them. UT is a very different situation. As the saying goes, you don't recruit at those two mentioned schools, you "select". Air Force does not recruit football players. All of their students are appointed to the academy. Calhoun has zero experience from what I see in recruiting.....a vital part of any sucessful program. I sure don't look forward competing with UK, MSU, and Vandy each year for the bottom. Cutcliff or Calhoun are not dynamic enough to recruit well enough for the SEC. Sad day when we have to stoop so low as to get Duke and AF coaches.

What would his record be if he took that AF team into the SEC? Would he have had a winning record?

Interesting point about the players already knowing about the meeting yesterday while we were still negotiating with Muschamp. Doesn't sound like this relates to Calhoun...we'll see I guess.

Apparently the press conference has been pushed back to 6pm now from the aforementioned 3.30pm one for just the DC.

Exactly! People need to calm down and give him a chance.

The same people that are *****ing about his credibility are the ones drooling when Kiffin was a prospect last year. But he had tooooons of experience....

Bring on Calhoun! Go Vols!

If Hambone hires the Air Force coach, then I say the guy gets absolutely no slack for anything that has transpired. If he cannot salvage a Top 15 recruiting class (at worst) and win at least 7 games next season then he needs to be 1 and done (our choice, not his). I do not know this guy. I do know that Air Force has not beaten a ranked opponent in the time that he has been there. I do know that the kinds of players that UTK needs to attract to compete in the SEC are not going to respond to military discipline. Who is he going to bring in that can recruit? Do guys at the service academies really even recruit in the same sense as other programs?

Well what would be the positives to hiring Calhoun?

1.) Great disciplinarian = We will continue to play fundamentally sound, mistake free football.

2.) Seems to get the most out of the talent he has = Our players will not be under developed the way they were under Fulmer.

3.) Has NFL experience = meaning he has NFL ties and can bring in assistants with NFL experience as well. That would allow us to continue to sell the NFL angle to recruits.

I guess my biggest concern with Calhoun is how good of a recruiter he will be and can he put together a staff that will be able to recruit like Kiffn's staff did. I'm just scared that the minute Calhoun's name is announced, the rest of our commits will disappear.

It sounds like Calhoun will be Tennessee's next coach according to Basilio. I guess we'll wait and see what happens.

Same guy who stated yesterday that Muschamp was "done deal."

Just saying, I like reading what he has to say, but I hardly consider him, or anyone as of right now, any more in the know than say, myself.

why is everyone(I'm Sorry, A lot of you) against this guy?

He is a military guy=Dicipline
He is a Winner
He only ran the Option because it fit his players, he is a Pro-Style Guy(former NFL Off Coor)
And I would imagine, having graduated from the Air force academy, he is a strong Character guy
He is not of the Fulmer Regiem

I say we give him a shot, we might just get a "DARN GOOD FOOTBALL COACH"

Ok...fine... I agree. I was able to get behind Kiffin, so I will get behind Calhoun too, if hired. I love this program, and I will support its coach. If we lose recruits over this, then they didn't want to be here to begin with. Let's make UT a program that picks kids again, instead of a program where kids have to pick us.

He might not be that bad, Saban and Urban where from lower programs Bowling Green, Utah--------Flordia Saban--- Michigan State------to LSU

I would be willing to give him a chance.

He is very intelligent and remember, they AF almost beat us with the wishbone last time.

He may not bring that offense because it is better suited for service academys, however, i am willing to try anything that will give us an advantage against Florida's spread offense.

The conscious of the Vol Nation speaks and I believe it makes a great point.

Concerning the team meeting it bears mentioning that Air Force Defensive Cor has met today with the AD from Texas A&M. He is expected to take that job if offered today. That could be the meaning of the team meeting out in Colorado.

Calhoun is a Great coach. He is huge on discipline and knows multiple offenses, and has had success everywhere he has been. Everyone he has ever worked with has nothing but great things to say about him! GIVE HIM A CHANCE, BTW he is way more quilfied than lame kifn was:whatever: FIRE MIKE HIRE PHIL AS NEW AD!

Some people need to quit smoking the pipe

Glad to see you can post something relevant and worth reading.

Just like VOLS1704 said, give him a chance. I think he would do well here at UT, givin he can bring in some good assistants.

Who would you guys want with him on the staff if he did come? Does Kippy Stay ( He better! ) ?

Recruiting is why he better hire the right assistants. If they keep Cheney, Thompson and Kippy then add someone like Rodney Gardner they'll be fine getting players.

I like Kippy but he hasn't recruited anyone in over 10 years!!! His prior relationships with high school coaches has almost certainly disappeared!!

well i guess i'll have free time on saturdays this fall to do other things. football dead period of 7 years atleast before another winning season.

I am absolutely sick of people like you. I, for one, bleed ORANGE and will never quit watching or supporting. All you fake fans can stay gone for all I care. GBO

Why do so many of the UT players/commitments dislike him?

As I'm fond of saying, there are an amazing number of idiots in the world. Heck, my background is in the option but my last spot was wing-T. If people dismissed me on the basis of "he's a wing-T coach", I'd probably go berserk.

The assumption is that Calhoun would come in and run the option no matter who his players are. That's idiotic.
