Team found out from media?

I can't help myself. Fulmer has just over and over and over done things IMO to point fingers at everyone but himself. Even when it has seemed like he's saying he needs to do more, it was always couched in terms of someone else not meeting expectations.

When I saw this thread -- that apparently Fulmer didn't even go in and personally tell the players about this before letting it rip and get on ESPN, it just seemed to me to validate my impression of him, which is that he scapegoats the nearest target.

I've just never had much respect for him, especially not the last 4-5 years. And I know everyone on here wants to be all PC and what not and slap the guy on the back with an "'atta boy," but the truth is that Fulmer more than any other person out there is the reason why you are where you are right now.

Its easier for me to say that from the outside looking in. But my personal guess is that "good riddance" is the thought more Vol fans have right now than any other. Even if they can't bring themsevles to say it.

Agreed!

You can say "good riddance" and still appreciate that he is the reason we're so bad right now, just like he's a big part of the reason we created the expectations we did that make it so miserable right now.

I think most of us are happy as hell to finally see him out and would love to help him pack, but at the same time, pretending that the man is a piece of crap is just sad.

I have never met the man. He might be a delight to have a beer with or play golf with. Meyer might be a complete jackass personally, for all I know.

My point isn't that Fulmer is a "piece of crap," but rather that his leaving doesn't command that everyone ignore what has gone on here for awhile, now. He got paid millions every year to produce mediocrity and to put your university in a position where it is going to pay him $6 million to leave.

Excuse me if I don't shed a tear for him, "personally."

We're living in the age instant notification of everything, through text messaging, Facebook and MySpace updates, etc. etc. etc. I find it hard to believe that a bunch of modern kids who've grown up with that could possibly be that broken up that a formal meeting with them wasn't held before the news leaked out into the world.

An announcement is planned for Monday afternoon at Neyland Stadium. Fulmer, who has won 150 games at his alma mater and is the dean of SEC coaches, met with Tennessee officials Monday morning, and they reached a mutual agreement that it would be best for all parties if Fulmer did not return next season.

CPF was most likely not the one who leaked this story to the media. CPF most likely was planning on bringing the team in, this afternoon, after classes, and letting them know, in person.

Personally, I would rather our players were not pulled out of class at 9:30am for this.

You assume a lot.

Especially since "Classwork" is the reason these kids are at the University of Tennessee... right?
At least 70% of the players wearing UT uniforms are going to want that college degree in order to have financial success after their playing days in Knoxville are over.

i hope thats not the case but what are they supposed to do? pull everybody out of class to tell them fulmer wont be back, its not like he got fired and we need an interim coach. the players hopefully feel a lil of this is their fault and put it together and close the season out strong and hopefully get to a bowl game. 6-6 does not guarantee a bowl game by the way
Sadly, with the tie ins,the SEC will likely have 3 teams at 6-6..totaling at most 9 eligible teams and 9 possible slots if we hasve 2 BCS teams..and not enough teams to fill them...Yes ,they will go bowling at 6-6..if they make it

Fulmer committed career suicide when he hired Dave Clawson. That guy has no buisness coaching in pee wee football, much less the SEC.

Why in the hell did he flip our O-Line around?? Can anyone answer why he did that?
What good did that do?

Bingo!!

Exactly, that line gave up more sacks Sat. night than all of last season.

This is the best post I've ever seen. Sums it up nicely and is 100% truthful.

This thread is completely ridiculous. They just had the meeting this morning. The official announcement has not been made. He is having a team meeting before the official announcement to inform the players. He cannot help that the info leaked out. The players are in classes during the day and he is not going to send a mass text message to his players saying that he is out. That is the most idiotic thing I've heard on here.

And, about the missing class comments. Yeah, as if the 100+ members of the football team are at school at UT in order to propel them to the NFL? Most, by a huge percentage, of the team is there to get a degree and not move on to the NFL.

The fact that you ask shows your ignorance of the genius of the man and his system. He was educated at Williams, coached at Fordham, Villanova and Richmond where he was used to coaching players as intellegent as himself. It's a shame that he landed at a place whose players and fans don't have the ability to understand what he teaches. Maybe when Bobby Johnson takes the Clemson job, Clawson will go to Vanderbilt so he can beat your sorry asses on a routine basis.

I heard that Hammy had the meeting with the team and it was heated. Several players cussed at Hammy and walked out.

No the issue is that it is easier to call plays against Umass and Georgetown than against Auburn, UCLA etc.

I thought it was a suspect hire from the beginning, and that has been shown as the season has progressed.

Fulmer is not free from blame and neither is Clawson.

Clawson will never be a D-I head coach.

Now that is an interesting opinion. The coach that is in charge of the worst offense in the history of Tennessee football is a genius, only his players are too stupid to understand the brilliant system that was so successful against Towson and Old Dominion.

Thank you for distracting me from the drivel that LG keeps spouting.

They all walked out before he ever spoke at the meeting from what I have read other places. If that's true, it's pretty classless.

I'll be curious of just how much laughing you'll see on the sideline the next game. I don't know why the players are upset with Hamilton, he doesn't play on the field.
