Lots of guys working on recruiting for DT's including Sirmon, but Wilcox and Lance Thompson have some other help as well.

Ron McKeefery is doing an outstanding job increasing speed and strength. Guys like Malik Jackson, Mo Couch and Montori Hughes (if he is still on the team) will all show great strength thanks in large measure to this man.

A person working with S&C who like Sirmon moving from GA to LBs could end up with a job on the coaching staff somewhere down the road is DeMarco McNeil. He was a first team All SEC DT for Auburn and is a member of their all decade team. He is still a hoss and can speak with some authority to the young studs I believe Wilcox will have pounding the opposing OL. He is also despite being a former DL coach, now working on the strength side and is allowed to help guys during the summer.

Here is a bit more about DeMarco for those who do not know him.

2000-03
6-2, 300, 4L
Prichard, Ala.
(Blount)
92 DeMarco McNeil, DT

McNeil played defensive tackle for Auburn from 2000-03, earning All-SEC first-team honors as a senior. On his career, McNeil tallied 150 total tackles (106 solo, 88 assist), 34 of which came at a loss for 150 yards. He deflected 16 passes and forced five fumbles while recording 13 quarterback sacks. As a senior in 2003, McNeil had 55 stops, including 13.0 tackles for loss and 7.0 quarterback sacks. McNeil also accumulated three interceptions on his career.

Where are you getting that Sirmon is working with the defensive tackles? This is not true at all. Sure, position coaches overlap some, but we're talking drills and such.

DT Sheldon Day Indianapolis, Indiana
Warren Central
6'2" 268

DT Jonathan Taylor Millen, Georgia
Jenkins County
6'4" 315

DT Jonathan Bullard Shelby, North Carolina
Crest
6'4" 255

DT Danny O'Brien Flint, Michigan
Powers Catholic
6'3" 278

DT Korren Kirven Lynchburg, Virginia
Brookville
6'5" 278

This is my list, I want at least 2. I think O'Brien is one and I think he will be joined with another stud.

I think we've already covered why Sirmon is recruiting the defensive tackles he is. It's not like he's assigned to recruiting defensive tackles. It's situational.

Thanks jmoore. I do not have a subscription and never read the Price article.

He is 6'3 and 300 already...that is grown man size.

He is being recruited it looks like by Kirby Smart to AL.

Tennessee really has the chance to have a special class at DT in 2012.

With Shanks added to the guys above, and TN still agressively pursuing some guys like Borne we will be able to miss and still have a class at DT without an Allen Carson in the mix.

Mo Couch is an immediate starter and will be joined by Malik Jackson who is graduating. The PT is available. Last year we had no choice but to go the JUCO route because we missed on:

Gabe Wright GA - who we thought we had and who lied to our coaches. Thanks to Gerald Jones and Trooper Taylor, he will be in the Plains during their decline.

Anthony Johnson was ours and may well have been the best DT in the country in the last class. He was going to LSU as soon as Frank Wilson was hired there.

Mickey Johnson LA - gave us serious consideration and liked Terry Joseph but wanted to be on the line with Anthony Johnson. St. Paul?s defensive tackle commits to LSU | LSU Sports | 2theadvocate.com — Baton Rouge, LA

Timmy Jernigan FL - was thought by some early on to be a gator lock but was beaten out through the turmoil by a great recruiting FSU. TN did get an official visit and Timmy spoke highly of the Vols.

If we had gotten Wright, or Jernigan, or Johnson we would not have as clear a path on the depth chart to starting as we do now. For a guy like Borne to go to his in state school of LSU, he will likely be sitting for 2 years at least.

The silver lining on missing over and over and over on top DTs in 2011 is that we look like we could have a superb 2012 class.

Hope you're right but I'll believe it when I see it.

I do not know you other than the fact that you claim to root for TN and Ohio State which is like being a beef eating Hindu or a pork loving Muslim.

I also know that no one as far as I can tell has made any comment on this message board about a former stud D Tackle who is working on staff and who coached D Line at other schools.

I also know that some folks have stated their belief that we will not get any good D Tackle recruits. I think they are dead wrong. We will see what happens.

Now I also see that you have tons of 1 and 2 word posts.
Bingo,
This dude sucks...
This guy sucks.
Dooley did?
Anyone play PS3 Madden?
Whatever happened to this guy?

Thanks for your insight and analysis. You bring a lot to the board.

n Football’s front seven. Dooley’s team is still short of depth and size on the defensive line and at linebacker.

A similar crisis on the offensive line seems to have been addressed by recruiting. So has the secondary.

The 2012 class better bring it long and strong on the front seven. If you can’t stop the run in the SEC, you might as well move to Conference USA.

This is from Strange's article today

I'm guessing it's because he has a perspective, brings some information to the table and doesn't use run-on sentences or the goofy eyeball face regularly.

If Shanks is that good McNeill will be offered a job by bama or Auburn so they can get him. just like the Frank Wilson deal

Valo that is a very valid point. The counter is that Saban and Chizik do not have guys right now at D Line to fire and DeMarco does not have as deep of a coaching background as Frank Wilson did when he is hired.

This is the guy at Auburn. Chizik just brought him on.

Player Bio: Chris Rumph - ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE - University of Alabama Official Athletic Site
Saban just brought on Rumph.

Also Shanks is great, but I do not think he will be ranked as highly as Anthony Johnson.

I stopped reading anything MikeHamiltonFan wrote a few weeks back. 90% of what he says is over-stated opinion in which is usually common knowledge and the other 10% of babble.

Outstanding post. Probably should be my new signature. Could have been a bit more hordor if you added things to make more than 100% but your butchery of English is inspiring.
