What are you guys seeing? Here is where I am: (For those who want sources my stats came from here: https://allfortennessee.com/2019/09/15/tennessee-football-report-card-chattanooga/2/)

Offense:

1. QBs: I guess at this point it is what it is. JG still seems like our best option and our only real hope is he got a little confidence after Chatty. Still makes some real bone headed plays though, usually at extremely inopportune times. Still, he completed seven of eight passes for 142 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. But his one incomplete pass was his first pass, and it should have been intercepted. He had a touchdown pass to Cedric Tillman that was late would have been intercepted against an SEC school. And most of his throws were easy. Nonetheless, he did a solid job on the day. The backups were not much better although Brian Maurer did have a touchdown run but couldn’t complete a pass. J.T. Shrout was three-for-nine with 23 yards. He could have been much better, as he consistently made the right decisions but made poor throws with them Simply put, Guarantano proved why he was the starter.

2. Running Backs: Ty Chandler had a touchdown run, but he only averaged four and a half yards a carry. Eric Gray only averaged four yards a carry. To be fair, Tim Jordan averaged six and a half yards a carry, and the running backs as a whole had over 180 yards and five yards a carry. But Tennessee football was playing the Chattanooga Mocs. The unit should have been much better. That it wasn’t is disturbing

3. Wide Receivers: Here we go. Something to get excited about! These guys are legit. Against Chatty Marquez Callaway had 59 yards and a touchdown. Tillman caught that touchdown pass while taking a hit in the end zone. Jauan Jennings had another touchdown catch. And the tight ends continued to help with run blocking on the outside. There were no issues here. JG does no have to be perfect, just get the ball near these guys and let them make a play.

4. offensive line: Uh...... Still better than last year. Good pass protection thus far which we did not have really at all last year. It is hard not to look at some of the sub par running back numbers from Saturday though and not put some of that on the line. I still think they are going to get pushed around some in SEC play.

Defense:

1. Defensive line: I am hoping they remember to get on the bus at some point. Even Chattanooga's o-line was pushing them around. The Vols clearly have a ton of work to still do up front, which was to be expected, but they continue to wilt at times and other times show a lack of depth.

2. Linebackers: Both the site I listed above and myself are impressed with the linebackers. While the defensive line was an issue, the linebackers continue to get better. Henry To’oTo’o is proving to be a superstar freshman linebacker. Daniel Bituli’s return was huge. But the big star was converted running back Jeremy Banks, who finally emerged in his new role. Banks came away with two interceptions on the day, an incredible stat. Meanwhile, on the outside, Darrell Taylor was his usual playmaking self by recovering a fumble with Chattanooga threatening to score in the first half. That’s typical for him, and he helped this unit thrive overall.

3. Secondary: After such a major lapse on the final real play of regulation last week, Tennessee football regouped here last Saturday. Nigel Warrior and Kenney Solomon both had interceptions. And the Chattanooga Mocs as a team only had 76 yards passing. That included NFL prospect Nick Tiano completing only four passes on 16 attempts for 40 yards and two interceptions. So the unit does deserve credit here.

Special Teams:

No real reason to waste space here breaking it down into place kicking, return and punting. All the way around our Special Teams are good. Great in fact. Along with our WRs a real bright spot this season.

What do you guys think?

If JGs first pass isnt an INT or almost INT..guess that's improvement..much of what we saw line wise last week really isnt a good source for future predictions.

You have the WR and RB analysis backwards.

WR is a concern other than Jennings. Besides Jennings, that crew has been awol.

Receivers can only be as good as the quarterback throwing to them.......when given opportunities that have shown more than competent, even great at times.

Or maybe, just maybe, we throw him a bone with a confidence throw and let him work from there.

Use the backs to wear on them. We’ll break one eventually.

Not sure I agree with you on the RB's. They had a good day. I thought they ran well against BYU also. Eric Gray is impressive. Jordan runs hard. So does Chandler.

Callaway has really done nothing. Jennings is playing with the same qb as the rest of them.

I think the D-line played much better Saturday than any time during the first two games. I saw a couple of sacks and some players in their backfield. I t was good to get some more get experience. Again, we have very little experience and believe we will get better with added experience. Their new QB is an option QB and could cause some problems, but I think most of those problems will at LB and safety, depending on the defensive call. I would rather Franks was playing because I think we would have been better prepared for him. We will see how that works out. I think if Kentucky stopped Franks, we would too,

What I see is JP is developing depth. He has said all along that is crucial. He is on a mission to find out who is with him and will give it their best.
I am seeing players in the game and on the stat sheets that I am not really familiar with. It was evident last game that JP wants to give everyone playing time and a chance to see what they can do.
Especially names like; Orr, Omar....and they looked good. Look at our 2019 stat sheet and you may be surprised how many are playing and their results.
Nothing makes practice more exciting and competitive to these guys than knowing they have a great chance to play next game.
Sure, I want to win today dammit!!! And, our coach can be corny and condescending, and he may sound like a hillbilly some times. But, after all isn’t that who we all really are? How can we deny it, heck we even have a dang hillbilly bloodhound for our mascot.
So, as I step back from the ledge and try to be a somewhat intelligent hillbilly, I want to give JP and the team my support.
Now go kick Florida’s ass!

I concur....
looks like we might be starting to gel on the OL and DL...
both units are much better..
I believe we give Floriduh fits Saturday...
being a noon kickoff just smells upset alert...

This is typical of the messaging i expected and posted about after the Georgia State debacle. anything positive would seem like it's improvement based on the start. Which is good for Pruitt's image as a coach, but i am skeptical whether it is actual improvement

4.5 YPC is adequate and I get what you're saying about competition, but to be fair the top 3 didn't have many carries to move that avg one way or the other. The offense was very simple and TN could've done pretty much whatever they wanted to. They let lots of people get into the game which is more important than building those stats up against an opponent that doesn't put up much of a fight. JMO. GO VOLS!!

not trying to be a smarta$$ here....
a little positive energy can go along way...
we do not always have to be so negative of this team...

JG still seems like our best option

Not to the unbiased eye. The unbiased eye says one series with the first team then garbage time with the second and third stringers isn't tantamount to an opportunity to show out.

Put 'JG" with the second and third stringers, and my unbiased eye says he could have done even worse.

yeah, i said right after Georgia State to expect a positive message, because we have nowhere to go but up. Kind of like in years past where we were always backloaded with Kentucky and Vanderbilt, making it seem like there was progress at the end of each season since we'd finish with wins after aweful october's
