Team 121 looks formidable

Keep believing that.

Everyone already knows he sucks. It's just a matter of time until his firing is justified. Vols drop 4-5 regular season games next year and they it gets pretty hard to justify bringing him back.

LOL! Actually a group of loser wannabes continually post on message boards about things about which they have no clue...that's what I keep seeing (and believing)...

How dare these people post their opinions about UT football on a UT football message board!

Think some of you are vastly overrating our defense. I don't see a true difference maker on the roster next year. Maybe tuttle will be more consistent, maybe kirkland will be fully healthy, etc. But no one we can hang our hat on.

We'll have to average 40 to win the East.

I read that we were playing one scholarship player on our line at one point this year. I think another spring and summer will allow Shoop to instill his D in these guys as they get healthier and gain more experience. If JRM comes back and we have him and a 100% Kirkland and line next year we should be decent inside. The edge worries me with the loss of Vereen and Burnett who I wish would come back but know that's a selfish wish. Corner worries me. But again, another spring and summer under those guys' belts and they may play stronger next year.

Hell, they'll suck, the coaches will still suck and we'll find a way to lose before the season even starts.

We might as well quit cheering for the VOLS, they're never going to be anything but crap. We might as well tear down Neyland stadium and bulldoze the field.

GO VOLS, I guess....????🙄

With nine of our allotted 25 scholarships being 4* and several more looking for a slight bump to make it to 4* status, all we need is one or two good surprises and I will be very satisfied with this recruiting class. It will add much-needed depth, as well as allow us room to Redshirt several of them, which is how you build a franchise team. If we land Akres and Wade, not only will we have a top 10 class, but we will also have every position covered except maybe WR/TE.

Overrated.

Talent wise our roster is as good or better than any SEC east team... Biggest concern is coaching, player development and continued injuries

I completely agree with CBJ when he said this is a catastrophic year of injuries like nothing he's seen before. Good Ole Verne and his sidekick showed a list of our injuries & that's all they have talked about the last three or four games is how many injuries we've sustained this year. A 10-win season would be a B+ season, IMO. Hopefully the injury bug stays far away next year and we see what Shoop can bring to the table with a fully installed D!

This offense isn't ranked in the top 25 nationally for any meaningful statistical category that I could find. And we were very close to the bottom of college football in some of those categories. For instance, we are ranked 103rd in overall T.O.P. For a team that is primarily run-first, that is inexcusable. So the stats say that when we do score, we score quickly. It's no wonder the bulk of our injuries were on the defensive side of the ball this year. They were on the field way too much. Our offense hasn't had an identity since Butch arrived here. Even though we've given up a million rushing yards on defense, there's just no way we can judge Shoop's performance here yet.

Could the time of possession problems contribute to our injuries and depth issues on defense?

So we are putting a coach who has improved his win total every year he's been here and has a chance to do that again on the hot seat? Holy **** that is stupid.

I'm not sure he's the long term answer. Who knows? But he has done nothing to warrant being put on the hot seat yet.

Barring some major changes, UT will be lucky to stay in Top 15-20 in recruiting this year. Only reason we are ranked so high now is pure volume over other teams.

Oh, and most of our instate talent is headed to Clemson & elsewhere. Quality skill players know Debord is a joke & Butch is on the hot seat.

You're a joke

If what VFL34 said is true, and Guarantano really does have that Cam Newton "it factor", then I actually could see us being better next year. I'm very appreciative of Dobbs and what he did for our team the past few years. But his decision making and accuracy kept us from being a contender. What worries me though is that we still don't have a QB coach. That makes me question whether or not Butch is the one trying to develop these QB's. You have to wonder why Dobbs, over a 4 year time period, never learned how to throw the ball away under duress. He would take a sack or throw an int every. single. time. We need a proven QB coach. Guarantano is the real deal. He had the recruiting profile and offer list to prove it. If Butch doesn't find a way to develop JG to his full potential, then he should never be allowed to coach again.

Dobbs did make a few bad plays this year but he has had an incredible year and we would've lost 2-3 more games without him. He will not be easily replaced.

He's on the hot seat next year, whether people like it or not. Tennessee can't let a mediocre coach hang around without accomplishing anything and insist we're serious about winning. Everyone knows the East is a dumpster fire, and not reaching Atlanta was a major failure.

How is he on the hot seat? You people are ridiculous!

Did you factor in the mid season transfers from this class?

Exactly. Things change, this idea of a 1 or 3 year complete turnaround is not what is going to happen. I'm not happy after South Carolina, in fact I'm furious. It's the worst loss in our program since December 2001, but I'm not jumping ship. I really think that the combo of JG and Shoop installing his defense fully will be a great thing for our program. We'll be good next year. The best part is nobody is expecting it. I guarantee that LSU home game has SEC/CFP implcications.

With all the doom and gloom forcasted after this season, I took a look at what team 121 might look like.

Next years potential starting line up with depth!

Offense
QB Dormady or Guarantano & Jones
RB Kelly & Fils-Aime hopefully Akers & Recruit Ty Chandler
WR Byrd, Jennings, Smith, Johnson or Callaway
TE Wolfe brothers recruit Brown
OL Robertson, Jones, Boulware, Hall, Kendrick, Thomas, Sanders, Richmond etc...Depth!

Defense
Kmac, Phillips, Tuttle, Picou, Butcher, Mixon, Vickers, Kongbo, Bain, Johnson, Moseley recruit Gaddy etc...
LB Berry, Bates, Jumper, Kirkland JR., Bituili, Sapp, McDowell, Bryant etc....
CB Buchanan, Abernathy, Osbourne, Gaulden, Martin, Moseley, Recruit Bailey etc...
Safety TK Jr., Griffen, Warrior Berry, Recruit Gray

K Medley
P Daniel

KR Berry
PR Byrd or Smith

team looks comparable and deep with a top 8 recruiting class coming in for more depth.

Only concern at this point is WR depth and DB depth

Thoughts VN?

Team 121 may face similar issues to team 120. Players 1-22 we should match up well with most teams. It's 23+ that would be a concern. We need S.E.C. quality depth.

What happened to that wall around the state to keep players here?

Almost all coaches get fired nowadays which is a bigger problem. Even if he only wins 4 or 5 games next year he gets a pass unless he was caught doing something etc. If he gets to 10 wins this year with all of the injuries whose team won 9 last year he will not be labeled as a coach that "sucks". TN lost six or more games for seven straight years so reasonable people know Butch has done a good job fixing a mess.

no way byrd play on offense next year.,.i don't know if the vols can use him right on offense..i think Malone is gone..i think he reached his ceiling..wr, Jennings, Johnson, Smith or Callaway, maybe Latrell Williams..
Byrd will start at corner next season and will be a impact corner...he should have never switch to offense should have trusted his game and played defense because he would have been starting..

Who cares? With TN's luck, half the team will be injured or transferred by mid season anyway.

I tend to agree with you on Malone. He's had a good year. Why come back to an unknown QB that could make your senior year worse than your junior year. I think we all agree the passing ceiling will be higher with Dormady or Guarantano, but a 1st year QB starter in the SEC typically does not excel.

He could go the North route and not get drafted at all
