I've only been a die hard UT fan since around 2004 (I'm only 22) so I don't know as much about our past teams most of you do so I ask, do you think team 119 has the potential to be the best team since maybe the 2001 squad?

2006/2007, probably. 2016 has the potential to be among the best ever and comparable to 1997/1998 and 2001 talent-wise if Jones gets another top 5 class.

The 2006 team had some serious talent. We were BCS title good that season.

Came to say this. Lost by 5 points combined to LSU and UF. Bad game against Arky and then Foster fumbled the bowl game away. But overall a really talented team. A few years there UT was really good in the mid 2000s.

Had we kept Ainge healthy ... :banghead2:

Still can't sleep well over JT Mapu's hand to Leak's facemask, negating Mitchell's pick six and 10-14pt? lead on UF late. Weak call! :banghead2: :banghead2:

We had the horses that year.

2006 was the best for a long time for us. I see 2015 more like the 2007 team tho. If we can duplicate that season, we'll all be pumped around here. SECCG and lose respectable to the eventual NC, plus win over quality opponent in bowl. 9-5 or 10-4, I would take right now.

2006. Not there yet at OT or RB depth wise. But if Phillips has 1/2 the freshman year that Barnett did, team 119 will be better than that '06 team at DE.

One of the worst calls since the "no catch-catch". Also, against UF I might add.

I love Coach Cut, but calling that QB draw vs USCjr where Ainge got banged up killed us. If Ainge plays more than a series versus LSU we win that game, I think going away. Who knows what the mindset is going into Arkansas if we beat LSU and have a healthy Erik Ainge?

I really believe UT was one of the top 3 teams in the country that season. As you said, if Mapu doesn't get flagged on a fairly bad call we go up 24-7, that's ball game.

2009, many forget how much talent was on that team, the 2008 team was preseason #3 in the nation, and many returned from that team in 2009. The 2008 team really under achieved and Fulmer was fired for it. In 2009 the UT underachieved that season too. 9-3 or 10-2 would have been very possible but close loses and bad decisions by Kiffin cost UT wins over Auburn and UCLA at home. UT beat UGA and SC easily that season. Crompton was playing as good as any QB in the SEC at the end of that season. And then there were the loses to Bama and UF both were closer than expected after being blowout by each in Fulmer's last season.

We also had A LOT of attrition after Fulmer left. Not only that but Fulmer had a terrible year of recruiting when Cut left. There have to be multiple top 10 classses on your roster for you to compete with the big dogs. Fulmer had the Berry class, but started slipping before that. He also lined up some great talent before he got axed...Tahj Boyd was committed. Fulmer got too far behind, underperformed, and then got his HC head chopped off.

Be careful. According to our fans, Fulmer had lost interest by then.

1989, 1995, 1998 and 2001! IMHO the most talented teams we ever had was the 1998 or 2001 team. Here are the draft picks. Should've been in the NC Game!

The following members of the team went on to play in the NFL:

1998
Shaun Ellis, DE
Terry Fair, DB
Jamal Lewis, RB
Travis Henry, RB
Travis Stephens, RB
Leonard Little, DE
Peyton Manning, QB
Peerless Price, WR
Trey Teague, C
Al Wilson, LB
Raynoch Thompson, LB
Deon Grant, DB
Dwayne Goodrich, DB
Chad Clifton, OT
Jeff Hall, K
Bill Duff, DT
Marcus Nash, WR
Cosey Coleman, O

2001
Henderson DT 1st 9 Jacksonville Jaguars
Stallworth WR 1st 13 New Orleans Saints
Haynesworth DT 1st 15 Tennessee Titans
Weary G 3rd 66 Houston Texans
Overstreet DE 3rd 80 Atlanta Falcons
Stephens RB 4th 119 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Lott CB 5th 129 Washington Redskins
Coleman T 6th 192 Washington Redskins
Gaines CB 7th 256 San Francisco 49'ers
Stevenson LB 7th 260 Buffalo Bills

If that's the one I'm recalling, it wasn't even to the facemask, but he was trying to swat the pass and came down with a pat on top of the helmet. It was nothing.
That's one where they should review it, since it was a scoring play, refs confer, and pick up the flag, waving it off.

team 119 has the chance to be the best tennessee team since 98. just look at how many guys on the squad have NFL potential. IMO I think we have several first round picks on both sides of the ball. we should be a helluva squad.

Offensively I have to go with 2012. We have better running backs this year, but they had an insanely talented passing offense with an insanely talented line. Just had a coach incapable of putting it together. Defensively since 06 and overall 06.

That 2012 team put up great numbers and they could move the ball on anyone. They just could NOT make wining plays against SC, UF, UGA, or Mizzou. On defense they had enough talent to be a middle of the pack defense in the SEC just had Sunseri running the show. That team could have won 8 games with the right coaching.
