Sophomore Marsalis Teague started his move from wide receiver to cornerback by practicing Wednesday with the defense. Unaware of the switch until Monday, Teague said he “just tried as hard as (he) could” to keep pace.”

“(Dooley) never really forced it upon me,” Teague said. “He just threw the idea out there at me and told me to think about it and come back and let him know. And the more I thought about it, the more I thought I’d put my trust in my coach. I’m pretty sure he’s going to do what’s best for me and what’s best for the team.

“It’s my job to do what’s best for the team, and I feel like this is for the best.”

I really, really like this kid. His parents were on our MARTA train after the CFB, and they could not have been a nicer couple to talk to. I hope he does great things at Tennessee.

Since we are loaded at WR this was best I would assume.

I wish him the best of luck, we really need someone to step up to replace Myles Jr.

Glad to see he trusts the coach to make the right decision! That was the best part about that in my opinion.

If I recall correctly, Urban M was recruiting him to play DB. He needed some big help there 2 recruiting classes ago. Last year we were good on DBs but in need at WR. I think this is the right position for him to excell not only for his college career but gives him the best potential to enter the NFL & be successful there. HS QBs that are smart and athletic make killer DBs. They know the fakes, the routes, basic fundamental offense patterns that help them hedge out on routes for picks & knockdowns; ex Eric Berry.

He's just flat out a good football player. Kind of guy who finds a way to get jobs done. We need more.

Sounds like a mans man who will do what it takes to make the team.

Service before self. Nice attitude.

Although i believe his "best for the team" intentions I think a lot might have to do with where he has the best chance to get the most PT. With dismissals & guys not qualifying his future looks better for him & the team on D.

I think attitudes have been a major factor in the downturn of this team over the years. You need a good mix of team first to level out the me first's.

I was thinking him as CB or S at the first place when Lane recruited him but he is pretty good WR. I think he'll do well as CB, maybe even better.

Teague would have been a great WR, but he will be a star at CB. This kid has a great attitude and really exemplifies what it is to be a team player. The Wade comparisons are warranted.

I loved jonathan wade.

I would say he could still play both ways, but we won't desperately need him on offense. He'll be shut down.

Definitely need the secondary help.....didnt he play safety in HS also?.....should turn out to be a great move

CB will be a better career path for him anyway given his size. I hope that he excels there (obviously).

This was a genius move by CDD. Teague is a super smart athlete with a high football IQ. He could have succeeded at WR, but he will be a stud corner. Before his career is over, I think Teague will make his mark in UT history, as one of the greats.
