TBA Student Seating

We have an advertising department? Just kidding, but I have actually very frequently also heard people say that they had no idea there was even a game last night...which is unacceptable. I forget that other people aren't as obsessed with UT basketball as I am, and some of those people need a reminder and extra incentive (as if watching the #2 team in the country isn't enough) to pass up on studying for several hours. Oh man some people need a priority check, I hope my mom isn't reading this...:)

I have to admit that Duke has a decent system for ticket distribution. There are two different systems one for undergrads and one for graduate students, and Duke students definitely have to work to get tickets. Duke gives the students the best seats in the stadium. Cameron is also a stadium where you can see from almost anywhere, so obstructed views are not a problem.

As far as our student attendance, the obstructed views are an issue, and the men's games that I have been able to go to, there was not seating behind the basket. A lot of students have agone a head and purchased tickets as well because they don't want to be stuck in the upper deck with an obstructed view. I also have an issue with the box seats that are never full, not even for the Florida game. This is where a lot of the student seating went, and they are not being used.

They are a bunch of pimply white kids with absolutely 0 idea of what is happening in the game.

Yes and the students here are so knowledgeable when it comes to basketball. Duke kids have a far better idea of whats going on, and know every possible detail about the opposition. They do their research, and collectively get under the skin of opposing players. The student section here is very generic with chants, taunts, etc...I wish we could be half the student section Duke is.

Why not fill the first 3 to 6 rows with students around the entire floor and let the donors take the rest of the lower levels.

I'm starting to agree somewhat that maybe the student section should wrap around to the sidline for one big section. But putting students in the 1st 3 rows is unreasonable, unless you have no respect for the elderly fans who are unable to stand the entire game (or get up and down repeatedly). Whether they're donors or not, they're fans who love the Vols, and hopefully you, too, will be going to cheer on our beloved Vols for the next 50 or 60 years!

I can remember camping out for my tickets for days.

Do they still issue student tickets for football games at the UC during the week leading up to each game? If so, why not do the Basketball games this way to avoid the uncertainty?

Ok the deal with the elderly...and maybe I'm wrong...but I don't think anyone is talking about taking the first 10 rows even all the way around the lower level. There could feasibly still be plenty of seating for the older people who can't stand the whole game. I by no means want to take that away from them. Also if they are having that hard of a time getting around, wouldn't it be hard to climb up and down all those stairs? Not to mention that every game this season but the Auburn game was on TV, I hope to still be able to go to games when I'm older but I think you also reach a point where you're better off watching from home if that is consistently an option. I don't really know that's just my thoughts.

And they still do that for the football games but that's because those are in higher demand. The student seating for football is about 4-8 times as many seats alloted as basketball which varies for the individual game in each sport. (For example the student allotment for the Auburn game was around 2,400 I believe as where for Florida it was maybe even double that?) Besides the demand I'm not sure why they don't do this for basketball, I think it also helps build the hype in some instances when everyone has to get to the arena early for good seating, it can create a fun atmosphere.

I don't think that the student section should be taking over the entire lower area by any means, just more of it. It hurts my argument that we won our 30th home game in a row last night because a prime argument would be that we need more loud cheering down lower closer to the court. But the idea is still valid nonetheless.

And like I keep saying, I want to keep the donors happy, we need their money, but if they are so willing to give generously because they love the school...why would they not want whats best for the team in allowing for a more prominent home court experience? One more time reiterating that we don't need to take over the entire lower level, just a larger portion of it. I think that there is definitely a happy medium that can be reached.

Yes! There are actually a group of students on Duke's campus whodivide the research. Their job is to research the personal lives of all players of the opposing team. Chants, props, and plans are distributed prior to the game, so all students know the info and are on the same page so to speak. They also have no mercy. The Walmart bags with Hornbuckle was light compared to other things they have done.

I think with the history and tradition as a whole of UT, given that we maintain continued success like the Duke program has had, I wouldn't be surprised if our students individually and as a whole stepped their game up and got more organized. Something like that takes time to grow and build, it doesn't happen over night. I think our student section has nothing to be ashamed of for where it is now considering the timespan in which its had to develop but I definitely hope we continue to improve.
