TBA Student Seating Cuts

Already got a response:

Josh- I totally agree with you. I am completely in favor of student seating being first come- first served. The lottery for football seat assignment is not a policy put in place by athletics although I certianly understand the rationale for it.

For basketball we do need to implement some sort of admission opt-in or voucher pick up etc with some sort of 3 or four day day before the game cut-off so that we can ensure a full house. I think such a plan can be designed and implented so that a student has to "opt-in" either electronically or by picking of a general admission ticket, but then the seating at the game would be first come first served.

We will be working with SGA to figure out the best way to accomplish all this.

Thanks for your note and please let me know if you have any questions.

In the meantime, thanks also for your tremendous support of the Vols!

based on the length of Hamilton's letter, and the fact that there is no way he wrote a different one to everyone, I'd say he's gotten quite a bit of complaints over it.

Yeah, that's pretty much why I went with Mr. Currie. He seems to be a bit more in touch w/ us regular folk. :)

Lotteries are terrible. I know guys that went to UK for four years and never received a student ticket to a basketball game.

I went to a ton of games at UK back in the day. Not sure what those guys' problem was.

"As a result of the changes, Tennessee will also have to change the way students go to games. Instead of just showing up and swiping a student ID, it is likely that there will have to be some kind of ticket pick-up system."

I don't think I like that. I'd rather it be first come - first serve, not a lottery or anything.

I don't mean to step on your toes, because I'm not a UT student, but this would give people the option of not waiting all day to enter the game...if they don't care about where they sit.

That's sounds pretty good. That sounds more like Florida's system.

Yeah, I think with this system they wouldn't even have to cut as many seats off the top, but could have a flexible number based on attendance. Opt-in a few days before the game...say, have a 24 hour window to log-in with your student ID and say "yes, I am attending" and then there is a spot held for you. Then from there, first come - first serve or all those people who have guaranteed their attendance.
