TB Sounds Off

When you say things like " I support the program in a way some of you will never know" or things like that it comes off as "I am a better fan than you" when everyone celebrates their "fandom" in a different way.

thats a response to being called a doolaider, dooley lover, barbara (actually funny), or whatever else comes from the mouths of some posters who have never spent a dime on the university outside of a football ticket here and there.
As far as a better fan, I don't know what that means really. Not a concern.

this is the quote that got me, because it is fact. We are not devoid of talent on D by any means. Also, LB is supposed to be Sal's wheelhouse, he should be able to coach em up. Look at what LK did with the Crompton and His OL Coach did with the Sullins boys.

These LB's would be fine in the Big Ten. But they are WAY TOO SLOW for SEC offenses. Sal cannot coach SPEED. You either have it, or you don't. If the freshmen have speed, coach them up and get them in. The guys currently holding the starting spots are SLLLOOOOOWWWWWWW!!!:loco:

:machgun:After four wins in November folks will be ready to give him one more year. I just cant see this team beating Troy or Vandy but anything is possible

It is hard to argue with those statements. The Msu game took the wind right out of my sails but...we get a new coach and it doesn't matter who, it could be saint gruden. His first year will be to recruit and rebuild. Won't be a stellar year. 2nd year will be a little better then 1st year but still not up to Tenn. Standards. 3rd year expectations are high but still falls short of VN expectations. We will be right back where we are right now debating and dribbling the same crap we are now. Not saying we dont need a new coach, God knows I wanted it to be DD. Just saying we are a tough fanbase without alot of patience for even the most obvious of details ie. kiffin, injuries , strength of schedule and coaches mutiny.

Horse hockey. We've not seen the improvement needed to give us hope for the future. Recruiting hasn't been stellar. There is no improvement over last year even, when injuries were the excuse. Strength of schedule is not going to get any easier next year, either. Stop making excuses.

because we have a bunch of quitters for fans.

Ironic

Real fans *****, piss, and moan. But they never quit!

Who am I going to pull for? Virginia Tech? Vandy? Bama? I am incapable of doing that, unless they are in a game, which influences Division outcome or in bowl games, beating up on the Big 10, or some other puny conference.

Just because I say UT will be lucky to finish 5-7 doesn't make me a quitter.

I've been a Vol fan for over 35 years. I've been through hard times(Mid to late 70's). We had 2 winning seasons in 5 years. We lost games to North Texas State, Duke and Tulsa. But I'm still here. No amount of being called a quitter will change that.

how can people say they are being objective and say this?
OL not improved?
RB?
Running game in general?

Our OL looks like a different team than last year. Neal has been killing it, and he wouldn't be considered a top 10 back in the league.

Record wise. And I'll give you the oline which has improved and raise you the defense.

I didn't expect to see a D like this, but I would have been foolish to assume they would be better than last year due to new coaches and transition. I thought we would outscore teams and thought we could keep teams under 30, but didn't realize we'd need to score 50 a game to win.

I can argue with those statements.

Dooley is not "just about OK for this job." His record overall, in the SEC and versus ranked would barely be acceptable at Vandy or Kentucky. His record isn't OK at any school that cares about winning anything of any value.

And I can't feel bad for Dooley. If he gets fired at the end of this year he'll have made $10,000,000 for doing basically nothing.

Doing basically nothing?! I agree that the results on the field are unacceptable, and a change should probably be made for the betterment of the program. But to say that he did nothing?

Besides, working his butt off to recruit, hiring new assistants every year, dealing with punks/depleted rosters/unreasonable expectations from fans/a constant hot seat/horrible luck in more ways than he probably could have ever dreamed.

The guy poured his heart and soul into Tennessee football. He kept us afloat and lead us through some dark times. For that I will always be grateful.

The next coach that we hire will have a drastically more manageable task ahead of him then Derek Dooley did.

Doing nothing my ass.

This is the problem.

People are content with losing to people now as long as they're ranked. It's okay guys, we can wrap up wins against such stellar opponents as Georgia State and Akron.

Additionally, anyone who thinks Troy, Mizzou and Vandy are gimme games this year are also delusional.

We could easily lose 2 of those 3

Hey it sux that we can beat anybody like we used to.
Facts are facts.
I read on this board all the time about this record and that record.
Face it, the great Saban himself couldn't have won many games with the lack of talent Dooley started with.
It just sux that our defense is so horridous!
We finally get a running game, receivers ,debt on the o-line and our defense stinks it up.
But to say Dooley has done basically nothing is just wrong.

You undoubtedly aren't old enough to have seen some of Majors' teams.

I have watched UT since 1980. His 1988 team was his worst tackling bunch, but this year's squad might actually be worse thanks to Dooleave and Fat Sal.
Majors must have did something right - he won three SEC titles.

It never gets old. Worst SEC loss EVER. Embarrasment that was beyond the pale - no, we should ALWAYS bring up that game.

Derek Dooley could live to be 95 years old, and that will still be in the first paragraph of the newspaper article when he dies. Barring a miracle turnaround, that's going to be the one thing Vol fans remember about the Dooley era a few decades from now. He's the guy who finally lost to Kentucky.

When 40,000 Bama fans invade Neyland Saturday, and they drop as many points on us as they want, it'll just be another reality check.

not attacking you but when people say things like this and sound happy about it,it really really makes me wonder.not trying to be an a$$ at all but why would anyone want to see alabubba pack our stadium with 40k fans?that's why i say,if you don't like the coach, atleast back the players.:twocents:
