Taylor Mays or Eric Berry?

I would give you my choice but I honestly have seen very, very little of Taylor Mays over his career, so, it wouldn’t be fair to choose between the two.

On a side note, NCAA football 2010 could have the most amount of highly rated players in a very long time

Berry, Mays, Sam Bradford, Tim Tebow, Colt McCoy, and Brandon Spikes could all crack 99 overall. There are others who I could mention that should be well into the 90 or above mark as well.

if you can intercept like he does, run like he does, and give concussions at will like he does, you get the edge over mays

I remember a thread on this last year. Everyone was saying Taylor Mayes was the best SS in the country. One person said it was Berry. That person, who was right for the first and only time, was Lockdown1.

taylor mays vs. eric berry? i have no idea which one is better at playing ncaa 09. oh wait...is this in the football forum...i guess i just automatically assumed that no-one would be dumb enough to compare these two on an actual football field so i made my own inference about what you were talking about. come to think of it i am willing to bet that berry is alot better than mays at the videogame too. this is like comparing apples to ferrari's their both good but one is so much better than the other that it makes no sense to talk about them in the same sentence.

I haven't watched Mays much either but it's my understanding Berry has a much better nose for the ball and much better cover skills. Mays size and speed though are crazy good and he hits like a truck.

Feldman lists Mays as the third best player with no shot at a Heisman and has Berry first so he prefers Berry.

Mays is a beast! I'm not denyting that, lofton. He may be better, just saying he isn't known for interceptions.

They are both exceptional players and will likely have great careers going forward.

Mays wasn't even the best safety on his team last year.

He's probably the best athlete in the country, but he's not a great football player yet.

At this point, I'd take Berry, but in 2 or 3 years, I see Mays as being better.

Mays is a senior this year, so unless you are predicting that he will be a better pro, I don't know what you are talking about.

And Mays was the second best safety in the country last year.

I'd take Berry, but I think Mays is better in coverage. They're both hard hitters, but I think Berry just has a nack for the ball. And of course once they have the ball in their hands, Berry wins and it's not even close

Ellison was a far more productive safety for USC and was in charge of calling all of their defenses.

Ellison had 9 less tackles, 1 less PD, and 1 more INT than Mays playing in 5 less games. Add that into playing hurt for a couple games, plus calling the USC defense, and I'd say that pushes him over Mays.

Yeah, I think he'll be a better pro eventually. He could make a push this year though, but idk.

Yes, I worship at the church of sportswriters. SI is our bible and ESPN is our mecca.

Either that or referencing a sportswriters opinion does not mean I think he is infallible, simply that he's seen USC play a few more times then I have. I only watched them once or twice all last year.

Why is all this "Taylor Mays is a harder hitter" stuff going on?

Have you not seen Eric Berry's hits? He hits just as hard as Taylor Mays, if not harder. Plus he is 15 yards from the career INT mark in college with only 2 years under his belt.

As of right now, there isn't even an argument who is better. Now, the better question would be "Which one is a better NFL prospect?" That can be argued because it hasn't come to pass, but as for better player in college... Berry wins hands down. But we will know for sure after this season.

Because Mays appears that way. Berry is 6'0 200. Mays is 6'3 225. Mays is 6'4 225 according to some sites. He also has a 33 inch vertical. He is built like a bona fide mutant. Mays hits harder IMO, but Berry is more of an instinctive football player.
