From what I read at an Iowa newspaper site, we sold our allotment of 8,000 in days and got more while Iowa sold 4,000 as of last week.

You realize Vols are buying tickets all over the stadium and that Iowa only sold half their allotment? If you're purchasing upper deck tix then you're likely searching for a good deal. Guess what? On the secondary market (places like stubhub) the Iowa side is cheaper to purchase tickets for than the UT side.

EDIT: For example, right now on the Vols side Section 411 Upper Deck has tickets for sale at 124.99 a piece. Iowa section 137 (the lowest level of the Lower Deck Touchdown Club seats) for $122.25.

This is a bowl game - are you gonna pick the upper deck for more than what you would pay for fantastic seats?

You're completely making up a story here. All that indicates is where the benches are. Has nothing to do with which school has more fans coming. The color coding only indicates seat type.

If I go on Stubhub, I'm buying the best seat I can get for the price I'm willing to pay. Nobody cares which side of the stadium they're on.

I fully understand what you are saying, but that's not completely true. I bought 3 tickets from through TicketMaster on the west side because I knew the Vols were the home team and we wanted to be among Big Orange fans.

I live near Orlando (behind enemy lines) and usually go to one or two UCF home games each season. Especially for September and early October games, I won't buy anything but west side tickets on the secondary market because of the sun, unless it's a night game, of course. I refuse to sit with the ungodly Florida sun beating down on me that time of year.

I get the sun issue, but the reality is that there are certain sections on behind each bench designated in the ticket allotment of both schools. After that, it's a free for all as far as who gets what. Pretty sure the whole 300 and 400 levels are wide open on both sides.

Is it thought that this game will sell out ? Just wondering because it would stand to reason people from Tennessee would have much easier travel.

Can't imagine it will approach a sellout. Ga/Nebraska did a little over 60,000 last year and I think it holds a little over 80k.

Looks like Gator bowl averages 60,000. The 2013 Miss St/Northwestern was one of the lowest but the picture of stands looks to be less than that. jacksonville.com

Hopefully TN will break the attendance record !

This is actually pretty pathetic on Iowa's behalf. That just shows there is absolutely zero momentum in the Iowa program. ANY other Florida bowl, Arizona, whatever state it was the ticket allotment would have been sold out easily. Iowa is known for its traveling fans and they really clunked it this year. It's pretty sad.

If I was an Hawkeye, I would probably stay home too. Unless i just wanted to see future-NFL star Jalen "Eats Hawk for breakfast" Hurd running over my entire defense....

j/k with you hawky

Don't you think it has to do with meeting (or not) expectations? UT hasn't been to a bowl game in many years and this fan base was chomping at the bit.

Iowa had high expextations this season and didn't meet them. After playing in the Outback Bowl last season, the Taxslayer Bowl just doesn't have that great of a ring to it.

I remember there were several times the UT AD sent letters to fans urging them to buy bowl game tickets. One was in 2002 after UT was poised to make a NC run and wound up 8-4 playing in the Peach Bowl.

I think you nailed it when you said there is zero momentum in the Iowa program. We'll see if the team feels the same on Friday.

iowa fans have no desire to travel all the way to jacksonville, spend thousands and see their mediocre team get a beatdown from tennessee

Honestly I'm a bit disappointed from what I've heard about probably not even close to a sellout. All season all we hear was if we get a bowl game it doesn't matter where it is we will sell it out because we're rabid for a bowl game. We finally get a bowl game and there are tickets left all over the place.
