Taxes

That is a fair argument, however, what happens when one particular church denomination pays so much in taxes they actually influence legislation? I'd rather leave it as is, flaws included, than risk having a mega-church wield any more influence over the government. We'd be back to the Holy Roman Empire...

You don't think this has been the case for a while?

so they are essentially a corporation? Don't think it really changes much at all.

Sure, but we aren't overtly bowing to a Pope or Ayatollah every time we pass a law.

But haven't we been bowing to the SBC on a regular basis? Could anyone win a house/senate seat in the south without pledging fealty?

I was hoping everyone would take a look at their own situation to see how they'll be impacted....everyone will get hit.....and if anyone thinks this will put even the slightest dent in the deficit they've lost their mind

Come on sheep....take the time to look at how your going to be affected by the no taxes on the middle class....I mean food stamp president....if those of you that voted for Hussein would spend a little time investigating how his polcies affect you....you might not vote for him....

then that minister can figure out another way to make money during the other 6 days

If your pastor only works 1 day a week then you're going to the wrong church. My pastor works 6 days a week (really 7) and has the hardest job of anyone I know. He carries the burdens of about 200 people and is always available for prayer or counseling 24 hrs a day. I also believe he gives a larger portion of his income to the church than any other member. He is the finest human being I know...for you to imply that you know how many days he should devote to ministry is laughable.

Don't hate the church because the bible says your homosexuality is wrong. Take it up with God himself. His word says its an abomination and unnatural. To be bitter towards churches or the SBC is to "kill the messenger". For the record I am not a member of the SBC or any other similar organization. Nor do I care what you do. I have my own sins to deal with I am not concerned about yours. I just think you have misdirected hostility.

Do you think polygyny is wrong?

I do not hate the church at all, just wish they would stop using a mythological text not at all proven as the basis for laws.

Everyone has the right to believe as they wish, and no one groups mythology should impact the lives of others. Your going to church does not affect my life one bit, my brother or sister being married to the same sec does not affect your life one bit.

I don't care how small a church is or how much it needs the tax breaks from the federal government. Churches should pay taxes. If it can't support itself from its own tithing and still pay taxes, it should cease to exist. If its congregation cares so much about its continued existence, they should donate more money to make up the difference.

I couldnt agree more. I would also cease calling money donated to a church a tax exempt charitable donation.

At the very lease churches that hold a vocal political opinion should lose tax exempt status. I would be ok with taxing all of them to be honest. To the non religious churches seem like more of a private social club than a charity anyway.

I attend church weekly and I agree with your statement. Many of the churches today have become nothing more than a business. If they are running a business they should pay their taxes.

You continue to tell this lie in public. If I'm not mistaken, bearing false witness is also a sin, according to your religion.

You campaigned relentlessly here on VN to pass a law to keep others from doing what they want to do because your religion disagreed with it. So don't come back later and constantly lie and say that you don't care what others do and you're only looking after your own sins.

Typical snake-hadling lying hypocrite.

This is exactly the type of two-faced, hypocritical BS that the GOP has cooked into their platform and is a big reason why Obama won the election.

FTR, I did not vote for Obama and I'm not gay.

But its ok for 47% of the US not to pay a cent in federal income tax?.....THE very ones running around with their OBAMA phones, carrying their EBT cards....buying a tray full of cupcakes with their food stamps and driving a freaking Lexus....park it right in front of their section 8 housing......but damn the churches.....many if which provide assistance to those in their local communities
