Tauren Poole (merged)

it's a catch 22 for Kiffin. he wants to showcase Brown and Oku to show recruits that he is willing to play kids early. but it is at the expense of a great young man in Tauren Poole. the OP was right in saying we should support this kid and not bash him regardless if he decides to leave the program. his frustration of the situation got the better of him at that moment.

CLK is getting paid to make these decisions. As long as the Vols are making the turnaround that is underway, I am content to let him do what he thinks is best for the program.

He is a good player and that's exactly why I hope he DOES leave the team. Clearly he's not going to get any PT with BB and Oku ahead of him, and possibly Toney Williams next season. He is a great back and could help out alot of teams around the country, just not the Vols. He should transfer as soon as possible to try and go somewhere he can contribute because he could be a great college back.

yeah, Poole had complained about playing time, and Kiffin sent him to the locker room.......this was in an article on TOS.........

Poole Sent Off: Sophomore running back Tauren Poole was sent to the locker room Saturday night after a display of unhappiness on the sideline.
Poole's only action was on special teams.

"I don't expect kids to agree with our decisions on playing time,'' Kiffin said. "I expect them to think they're the best guy at their position.
"But they need to respect those decisions and not let their feelings show.''

Kiffin said there had been no previous problems with Poole, who has seven rushing attempts on the season.

Gran ran into the same problem with Jacobs at Aub. he transfered and things worked out for all. Personally I like Poole and would have played him more last year but for whatever reason he has got caught up in a numbers game. But the kid can play.

I have no doubt that Kiffin has screwed Poole in his dopey zeal to play "his freshmen" at all costs. It's shameful, really.

dopey? How so?

Has our RB position hurt us this season because we're playing freshmen? Could we have been better with Poole out there? I guarantee you that recruiting is better off because we play him.

Bottom line: if the players are close in output, you play the younger guy every time, every day. It's not new.

I don't get all the fuss about Poole. I've got nothing against him, but he's done nothing to warrant all of this discussion about how 'great' he is and fretting about him leaving. The cold hard facts may just be that he is a notch less talented then the three backs ahead of him and there's going to be more talented players coming in. He was about as good a RB that Fulmer could get at the end of his tenure but he's apparently not as good as what Kiffin has brought in and is bringing in.

I would not blame him if he transferred and would also not worry about it. Best of luck to him where ever he ends up and if he leaves thanks for choosing the Vols.

Onterrio Smith left UT and went on to national recognitiuon as an RB with the Quack Attack. Let Taurean Poole go to another conference's school if we're not going to use him. The kid is to good a player to watch other people play. I totally respect CLK's judgement regarding evaluating talent, but he should also do the right thing.

Based on what evidence?

I just don't get the Poole obsession.

Until CLK has a 10' back signed sealed and delivered he cannot let Poole go. Despite what some say on here he will be valuable next year unless we have someone to replace him. And think about this, Nuke threw a fit and got in the game. So why not Poole too? Not it is going to happen but precendent was set.

TP has all the physical tools necessary, not to mention a work ethic out of this world... If hes not going to play here, then he needs to go somewhere else and shine. There is too much talent there to waste...

You sir are incorrect. Kiffin could care less if Poole were to leave. We have Bryce who will be taking the majority of the carries with David playing in the backup role. Although I am not as high on Williams as others he may be a good third down option and that leaves Poole at ST once again. On the topic of Nuke he did *****, yet he got the same amount of reps as before so his fit had no real effect.

Ok Mr. Expert. How do you take yourself seriously? When are you going to offer something of "expert" value to this board?

You gotta think deeper than that. With the physical nature of practice, there is a chance we lose a back in practice. Then we only have two backs. That's why he needs to keep Poole until we recruit another freshman. For the same reason Poole should stick it out but I can't blame him if he leaves.
