Targeting Solution

Won't be long until they bring out the belts with flags.

If the third-world kickball moms have their way that's what it will come to.

Football is a violent sport, created for and played by violent men. Constant concern by players as how and where to hit someone causes apprehension which increases injuries.

Make the players actually CARRY the yellow cards...during play on the field !!
Drop your card, and you’re out..!!

Take a page from Soccer, if it meets the criteria for targeting but isn't crazy then give a yellow card. If it is obviously an attempt to hurt someone then give a rd card. Two yellow cards means a red card (ejection).

PLEASE...don't instill ANYTHING that makes College Football resemble "Communist Kickball"!

Virtually the same play that knocked out Alontae happened in the Bama-LSU game and guess what? It was waived off, no penalty. When a kid ducks or slides and the defensive player who was already going low hits him in the helmet there has to be a way to make that a no call.
I saw that last night and couldn't believe they waived it off. It was worse than what Alontae did and the LSU player didn't get penalized. That told me there is definitely some bias in the replay booth in the SEC

You trust current refs to make that distinction?

IMO, they need to break it into 2 penalties. Flagrant, intentional targeting should carry the current penalty. Spear a guy with your from a running start? That deserves an ejection.

Incidental and/or unavoidable helmet to helmet contact should be a 10 yard penalty without disqualification. Hit a guy with your helmet as he drops down to try to duck under a tackle? That doesn't merit ejection. Should maybe still be a penalty to discourage any helmet to helmet contact, though.

Yes they need to do something. It's sad you practice all Spring Summer lift year around and get 12 games to show for it and they can basically take almost a tenth of that away on a judgement call that is subjective at best to the person judging it.

I think the only time targeting should be called is when the offensive player is completely upright and the defensive player goes head hunting. If either player is bent over preparing to hit or be hit, there shouldnt be a penalty. Its not that hard.
