Targeting Solution

IMO, they need to break it into 2 penalties. Flagrant, intentional targeting should carry the current penalty. Spear a guy with your from a running start? That deserves an ejection.

Incidental and/or unavoidable helmet to helmet contact should be a 10 yard penalty without disqualification. Hit a guy with your helmet as he drops down to try to duck under a tackle? That doesn't merit ejection. Should maybe still be a penalty to discourage any helmet to helmet contact, though.

Well, I can see the SEC doing a variation of this....The soccer method (2 yellows or 1 incident of breathing on Bama player = ejection) for 13 teams and the NBA method for Bama (6 targeting fouls = ejection)

We already have this system with unsportsmanlike penalties. Sounds like they should turn targeting hits into unsportsmanlike penalties if they are serious helmet collisions, and then reduce defenseless player hits to 5 or 10 yard penalties.

Muschamp said after the first game this year they need to go to a yellow card red card targeting system similar to soccer and I can't agree more. Referees are making college football hard to watch

Virtually the same play that knocked out Alontae happened in the Bama-LSU game and guess what? It was waived off, no penalty. When a kid ducks or slides and the defensive player who was already going low hits him in the helmet there has to be a way to make that a no call.

In a perfect world that wouldn't be an issue and could be handled by the officials discretion. That obviously isn't happening. We probably have Birmingham to thank for that. SEC officiating and reviews are Congress/Wall Street level corrupt. It's not a vendetta against us, mind you. It's just buisness. SEC officiating is the dirtiest I've ever seen, and I watch the NBA.

Or...ditch the helmets completely and go back to leather hats/something similar.

Excuse me, Alontae Taylor was ejected from the game by SEC rules. I'm afraid you got those confused with the Alabama rules. Sorry, is your team shooting for a national championship? How many millions have you brought into the SEC office this year? That's what I thought. Be happy with playing for second place and getting the extra money Bama brings in and DISTRIBUTES to everybody around. When I say everybody, I mean EVERYBODY!

There were less injuries, at least what appeared to be before all this "new helmet" technology. Rugby players don't have problems bashing heads around without helmets. Maybe the key to all of this is the helmet itself 🤔

If you're not wearing a ten pound helmet that everybody tells you will protect your brain, maybe you don't try and take someone out with your head?

Current helmets prevent cracked skulls, something that was happening with leather helmets. Rugby has the 2nd highest rate of concussions in sports, boxing is the highest. Rugby is also not as violent of a game due to the rules forcing it to be played slower.

Rugby players don't line up head to head and
straight run at each other to start every play. Rugby is a sport for badasses. But, stop trying to compare it to American football as though the risk of head injury is the same. Unless there is a professional headbutting league, there is no comparison.

I had thought of asking you to join my newly formed professional head butting league. I guess that's not happening now...
