Tampa 2 vs The Spread?

With the Tampa 2 it is imperative to have lineman that can shed blocks and get to the QB. There is little blitzing in this defense, so the lineman have to handle their men well for it to work.

After Ben Martin and Chris Walker we have 0 pass rushers.

His coverage skills aren't very good and he is a piss poor tackler. He might be a better fit at corner in the Tampa 2 system.

Its ashame Willingham is graduating, the Tampa 2 would fit him perfectly at corner.

Willingham will be only corner in SEC history to be flagged for pass interference at least once after graduation.:eek:hmy:

I look for UT to have a version of the "Tampa 2", just because it's his dad's defense. I also look for UT to find a way to blitz out of this package.

I've been wrong before (lots), but I really think the UT defense is going to be known for blowing up opposing offenses.

JMO.

Go Vols.

try this, pretty long but goes into a lot of the details
Tampa 2 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

How'd you like to be one of those recievers running a seam route knowing that Eric Berry and DMo are waiting?

I vote we change this to the Tennessee 2 after Monte is announced.

On second thoughts... it's probably only EB. DMo either goes pro or back to PState.

in the Tampa 2, the middle linebacker usually shadows the QB (if he is a runner), I remember watching the Bucs and the Falcons with Vick at QB, he tried that running stuff, Brooks lit him up and he didn't run the rest of the game.. trying to find video of that hit now.. if I find it I'll post it up

Well close, but Brooks was an outside linebacker. In the Tampa 2 the middle linebacker covers very deep middle (like safety deep) they usually use the weak side backer to spy a mobile QB.

Monte Kiffin is not coming. I am a huge Tampa Bay Fan, Monte makes more money than what Lane will be getting. Monte has had chances to be a college head coach, He was offered the Nebraska job last year. Why come and be a Defensive Co. and get paid less? If he does come then WOW . I will be happy for MY VOLS , but sad for my BUCS. Either way GO VOLS AND GO BUCS

good reading jcvol. it seems awfully risky at the college level. who do you think would/could play opposite Berry at safety? i do see why everyone believes Berry would flourish in this system. he would.

I like the Tampa 2, but Berry will flourish in most all schemes if not all schemes.

Nebraska offered a 68 year old man to be their HC?

do you think it will be a hybrid of the Tampa 2 and our current D?

Our base would be Tampa 2, but again...that's base. You can blitz out of it, like you can anything. Brooks covered deep middle a lot, but that's just a wrinkle.

Even Tampa 2 teams show cover three, four, cloud etc; as needs dictate.

Make sure we aren't getting caught up in the difference between base and what you can do out of it.

Berry was meant to play this system. Finding another safety will be tough. Not everyone can do it. Its not about physical ability as much as it is about making the right angles/reads in coverage. Your safeties must be able to cover ground. Your corners must be able to tackle.

As for attacking the spread, the corner support will help. Your LB isn't really a spy (like someone previously reported), but you could make him a spy. IMO, there isn't a LB in the SEC that can spy Tebow accordingly.

The speed down the seams for UF scares me against any defense....but particularly if the safety play is weak.

.

That is a main part of the Tampa 2. Everything else is a wrinkle.

No, the main part of the original Tampa 2 is for the MLB to cover the deep seam. Brooks is an OLB.

That is the wrinkle.

Sorry, I wasn't even paying attention to the name. I just assumed you were talking about the MLB.

Bad comprehension on my part.

This is true, but Eric Berry was made to play in the Tampa 2. It fits him perfectly. Everything about Berry fits in perfectly with the T2.

Berry fits perfectly in any defense. Who doesn't need a sure tackling, super fast, hard hitting, and great cover safety?

I'm saying the Tampa 2 would magnify his skill set more than most defenses. Eric Berry is special and does special things, but adding him to a defense that is set up to let a guy like him do what he does best, make plays, would allow him to flourish like most couldn't believe.
