Talked to a few guys in the AD today

Oh Mighty Lord of the Rings - I haven't been kicked off of here in a while so here goes. Even if there is any truth to anything you are saying here -- which I seriously doubt- what sort of dickwad would broadcast it on a board shortly after talking with people in the AD.

First of all - if you haven't talked to Hart you haven't really talked to anyone and whoever you did talk to no doubt trusted you to keep your mouth shut.

Talking to Gus Manning or the assistant concessionaire really doesn't count now does it.

I don't mind people getting on here and speculating or suggesting what might happen and if it does who might be a possible candidate but this is both reckless and unprofessional if someone actually did share their thoughts that works in the AD.

Looks like grandstanding and only presented to make yourself look important.

If you have legitimate inside information - do us all a favor and keep it to yourself - if you don't - do us all a favor and keep it to yourself.

snapped. but i doubt youll be kicked off for that, haha.

So much fail in the OP. It did brighten my otherwise dull day laughing at the ridiculousness. Sumlin record was great last year in a really tough conference? Oh yeah and now we are hiring HC's and telling them who their DC is going to be before we hire them? Haha.

Thanks.. maybe what he is saying is true.. Curious if Sumlin is only choice or is that Hart's fall back choice? I like Dooley and hope he does well. But more importantly I love the Vols and want what those making the deicisions to do what is in the programs best interest. GBO

They'd be asking for a revolt if they hired anyone other than someone they know for a fact can compete with Saban and Miles, hell Petrino for that matter. You don't replace Dooley with another, oh geez i think he could do a good job guy.

They said the same thing about Urban's spread option offense...just sayin.

Urban's spread offense was more of a running game than a passing game you know that. Throwing the ball 50-60 times a game is no way to win championships. People that want this kind of offense know nothing about what it takes to win.

I'm pissed as hell about the UK game. I was piss & vinegar, & sick to my stomach yesterday. Ruined my day. But, I don't know why everyone is so eager to oust Dooley just yet. I'm so mixed on what to do.

On the positive:
-He recruits really well, & recruits high character, high skill guys who won't get suspended.
-Like what he's doing culturally with the program, off the field, & with character & discipline off field, too.
-Like what he's doing with regards to respecting UT traditions, maxims, etc.
-We have a lot of good/promising assistants, especially defensively: Wilcox (I'm still positive on him; the more he gets & develops the better we get on D), Thompson (does anyone hate on him? I don't hear it.), Sirmon (no one seems to dislike him or the job he's doing).

On the negative:
-We are getting trounced after halftime, despite surprisingly competing well with teams that are much better than us for a reasonable amt of games (Bama, LSU, Ark, UGa, SC, fought to end at UF).
-Offensively, I think Hinshaw is doing well with QB's & we have good production there (when Bray is not throwing on a bum thumb like an imbecile).
-Heistand & Chaney vex the crap out of me! How with the pedigree for success & development that they have (Hiestand especially, sending to the NFL nearly every OL he had at UIllinois) are we not better?? Our run game is crap, run blocking is crap, play calling seems suspect, scheming seems suspect, etc. I just don't get it. I was excited about these guys, but lord.
-Can Dooley orchestrate good game plans? Is he a better AD or position coach than he is a HC. He's proven as a recruiter & a position coach. He's proven as a character builder & someone parents can trust. I'm still 50/50 about him as a HC. Something I couldn't say at the beginning of the season. At the beginning, I thought we might go 7-5, & to a bowl game. Now, it'd be a miracle if we got a top 15 class with all the doom & gloom & negative vibes on the Hill, & that embarrassing loss of ineptitude & seemingly bad coaching & player development & scheming in Lexington.

Argh. I just don't know.

We don't need to run the football to win in this league, or any other one for that matter. Is it nice to be able to? Yes. Can you win without it? Yes, yes you can.

Alright, pet peeve time over. First off, the OP probably doesn't have much (or any) connection with the UTAD.

Bielema isn't leaving Wisconsin. Alvarez groomed him to be his successor at Wisconsin, and I doubt he leaves the state, even for $4M per year.

Sumlin would be the mid-major candidate I'd want, but you'd need to look around a little first before you call him. Plus, his offense would require a major retooling, and that might take a while.

Before you get on me, as long as the team shows improvement, I'm fine with a retooling/rebuilding period. Dooley hasn't really improved or helped this team to grow, well, any at all since he's been here, and that's my problem with his tenure as Tennessee's coach.

It's a proven fact that every SEC champion runs the ball extremely well. You do have to run the ball effectively to win this conference.

Sumlin's conference record by year:
6-2
6-2
4-4
8-0

Dooley at La Tech:
4-4
5-3
3-5

No improvement there.

You know if Sumlin coached in the SEC that would be pretty good. Not good if it is not the SEC. Just saying:whistling:

I havent had a chance to talk with Hart, but I should sometime this week. If Dooley doesnt make a very strong case for himself in his post season review, he is out. Sumlin is the name thats bouncing around, and Ive heard hes been contacted. Wilcox should be fine regardless, but Chaney will be gone regardless. If Dooley doesnt make a strong case for himself, look for Sumlin to take the reigns and be paired with Wilcox.
I hope that is true, about Dooley needing to make a case for himself, but I think he's probably going to get a 3rd season.

I'm not a Vol fan (Obviously) but if you fire Dooley after 2 years, do you really expect a top-flight coach to come in knowing he has virtually no room for error in "rebuilding" a program?

I think some people on this board define "rebuilding" as beating Florida regardless of roster, winning the East regardless of implementing a new scheme, and winning 9 games regardless of schedule.

Dooley has had plenty of room for error. He has used up all of it and more.

However, I agree that it may not be best to get rid of him unless you already have someone willing to take over.

Sumlin's pass happy offense wouldn't work in the SEC. We might score more points but we still won't beat LSU, Bama, Florida and Georgia because they have too much speed on the edge and they cover too well. No gimmicks, we need a balanced attack and an offense that can consistently convert 3rd downs.
