I'm in Nashville and have hung out with George Plaster (104.5). While I enjoy the show and really like Plaster, no one at the station is a UT fan so they really only talk about us when they 'have to.' Last week, they were talking about CLK and a fan called in to basically say, "while I like the show, be careful how you talk about our coach. . .you're in big orange country and it's clear you're not big orange fans, which is fine, but be careful or you'll lose listeners." They, of course, jumped down his throat, but I agreed 100% with the caller's logic.

It sure would be nice to get more coverage of the Vols in Nashville. I have to hear more about Vandy than the Vols. Frustrating.

I completely agree. It's hard to listen to Plaster & crew because they spend entirely too much time discussing Vandy and the Predators, two subjects that I absolutely could not care less about. The only real positive about their show is that it's Titans-focused whenever possible.

I do enjoy the Doug Matthews show though. I just hope that he's been able to remain close to the program since the departure of the last regime.

I swear, the last two months of the season, Tim Irwin was hysterical. Imagine a grown man watching you kick his teddy bear and cut it up into pieces as he stands there crying his eyes out. That is how pathetic that show was. Every other sentence was either "he (Fulmer) just needed more time" or "it's about family". On the one hand, it's comical, but on the otherhand, it's pathetic and you're just begging this guy and the callers to get a grip...

If that's how he feels, in actual juvenile court he better be the most lenient judge in the country.

As previously stated, Bill King and Joe Biddle do talk alot of UTK on 560 AM Nashville in the afternoons. Also on 560 AM in the mornings is the Morning Sports Page with Greg Pouge and David Coleman, who tend to spend significant time on UTK.

104.5 FM in Nashville is probably the most listened to sports talk station in town and their morning and afternoon shows do tend to spread the college football coverage thin. In addition to Big Orange Sundays, Doug Matthews has a Saturday show from 9-11 on the same channel that is heavily focused on college football and he is usually joined by Tony Barnhart for a good portion of the broadcast. 104.5 also has a one hour Tony Barnhart show during football season that comes on in the afternoon once a week. Additionally, Brent Dougherty and Clay Travis will talk some UTK football on thier evening shows on 104.5.

Jimmy Hyams makes it to a lot of stuff and is very good IMO.

Come on, get real! Hyams doesn't know what day of the week it is, much less have some concrete, pertinent, informative, coherent, opinions. Clueless Hyams is lost in a fog.

Not defending Hyams by any means, but it's not like Griff has much of a choice. He has to defend him. They work for the same outlet.

irwin, stowell, hymens, sports gyno, oversheep, etc.
Wait til you see the blowback they get when they start that idiocy. Their hero went 5-7 last year, hadn't won an SEC title in a decade, and lost the four games against Florida and Alabama in '07 and '08 by a composite score of roughly 1,244-12.

Its 105.1 just googled it . They Had put up new sign on BillBoard in My Home Town Ooltewah (also Home to the Jacques Smith) :good!: Randy Smith was local NBC sports broadcaster , most remember him from UT call in shows and the TV play by play for VOL Broadcast on replays with Pat Ryan. He was let go by local affilate few weeks ago and now he's on The Zone espn 105.1 in afternoons. You can check them out on Twitter.com/1051TheZone

I hadn't seen this thread until now and just found this station today while surfin the stations. :dance2:

I hope they really get into High School football on this station as Randy Smith was great with "Friday Night Football" while at channel 3.

That's neither here nor there. Griff thinks that Hyams is very good at what he does. I will just believe him and keep Bah-ing from where I sit...

And furthermore...

Sue Johannsson of "Talk Sex with Sue" could have a more intelligent conversation with callers about football than Hyams and the rest of the crew on that joke of a station.

It just so happens that I thought about Sue because of her striking physical similarities to Hyams...

i agree, hyam's show is so boring. John wilkerson has no personality. that show was great when mike keith was on, but it's unbearable to listen. it was terrible listen to hyams defend fulmer to n'th degree.

Keith was/is a spoiled brat (even at 41 or whatever age he is). If his intellectual capacity matched his ego, he would be a genius of the first order.

I don't know who these mental invalids sitting in for Basilio today are, but they are certainly Sports Animal material.

I still can't find anything about this station online. I'm guessing they don't have a web site. And their twitter only has one update -- from June 15th.

I couldn't find a website, either, but here's an article I found about the station from June 23rd:

6/23/2009 - WTZO-FM "The Zone" Is New Radio Home For UTC Athletics - Sports - Chattanoogan.com

It must be around, because UTC just signed a 5 year deal for the rights to UTC athletics radio coverage:

Chattanooga Athletics announced Monday that Learfield Sports' Mocs Sports Properties and the Brewer Media Group have reached a five-year agreement for WTZO-FM 105.1 to be the new flagship home for the Mocs.

Beginning this fall, the city's brand-new ESPN Radio affiliate will carry all football, men's and women's basketball game broadcasts as well as the coaches' shows for football and basketball and Mocs Sports Today, a daily update covering UTC athletics. Fans can also hear the simulcast of all UTC broadcasts on University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Official Athletics Site.

Does anyone else know this guy who comes on every few days and talks for about five minutes. Doesnt have a question just talks about what he wants to say and is always dead wrong. He today was talking about Tiger Woods and literally everything he said was not wrong and after about 5 minutes of him going on and on he goes "but thats not what I called to talk about I called to talk about baseball" and off went my radio. He is worse than Hyams or any of those guys and he thinks he is a genious .

102.3 in Chattanooga talks about the Vols quite a bit. However I've never heard a radio sports show so fixated on golf the way these guys are! It seems like everytime I tune in, there's SOMETHING golf related that's discussed. Golf is boring enough to watch, let alone talk about!

Another thing, I don't know what their deal was last week but I swear EVERY day last week they were talking about the history of men's softball in Chattanooga! Honestly, who gives a rat's a$$?

Sports Talk isn't a "football" or a "Vols" show, it's a sports show. Golf is big around here, maybe you didn't notice. And if you would get your head out of your butt you would know why they talked about the history of men's softball last week. Or maybe you're just not one of those people who watch the news. Did you hear Volkswagen decided to build a plant here?

i absolutely do know what i'm talking about. i know they'll have a decent guest on some times, but the everday show is pretty weak compared to other talk radio stations. it was a much better show before Quake started. Music Man had much more insight in sports and southern sports than quake will ever do.

I have been listening to 102.3 for several years and when Music Man was on the show all he knew to say was " I agree with you Doc" and that silly a$$ed laugh he had was riduculous. Quake has brought some professional journalism to the show that was much needed. They cover Tenn.Vol football, Lady vol basketball, and Lady Vol softball extremely well. The reason they were talking about the local legends of softball was because the city just built a state of the art softball complex at Summitt and they were honoring the slow and fast pitch players that made Chattanooga the softball capital of the South. You should listen regularily before you make judgements.

Chattanooga's the softball capital of the south?

The new softball complex is a complete waste of taxpayer money.
