Johnson uses pit break to win again at Fontan

FONTANA, Calif. -- Jimmie Johnson got a huge break on his last stop, getting on pit road only seconds before the caution flag came out, and held off a charging Kevin Harvick in the closing laps to win at California on Sunday.
After winning his unprecedented fourth consecutive Sprint Cup championship last season, Johnson started this season by finishing 35th at the Daytona 500.
Consider the drive for five under way.
With Harvick trying to get around him with three laps to go, Johnson moved to block. Harvick scrapped the outside wall and lost his momentum, allowing Johnson to pick up his 48th career victory, and fifth at his home track.

come on nascar.......just hand jimmy a win :censored:

Nascar didn't hand him anything, sure the pit timing was luck but sometimes being lucky is better than being good. He still did a great job of holding the RCR cars off for 20 laps.

What i seen was him (JJ) throw the block and Harvick brushed the wall and lost all momentum:hi:

So, Jimmie should move over and let him go? He did exactly what he should have done and any other driver, including Harvick would do the same thing if they were leading.

I'm just glad that Harvick has been the class of the field the past 2 weeks. Keep running like this, and wins will come.

Nascar is taking care of JJ the way they took care of Jeff Gordon from 1997 until the time JJ showed up on the scene. He was a protege of Gordon's and was the natural heir apparent to Gordon, talented, vanilla, good looking, and uncontroversial. I have always loved racing, and particularly Nascar, but it's rigged to some extent. Nascar looks the other way with JJ just like they used to do with Gordon, penalize others if their car was too strong, manipulating races by throwing timely cautions that help him. I will give him credit for being a solid driver, but he gets more help than anyone. Dale Jr. is the darling but he is such a terrible driver that even Nascar can't help him. He's a lost case. Gordon won 13 of 34 races in 1998, and on his last pit stops he would only take two tires and would smoke everyone. That's when Jack Roush raised so much cain that Nascar confiscated Gordon's tires after a race. Of course, no wrongdoing found by Nascar inspectors. What a surprise. He was doing something illegal that year, Nascar knew it, and Hendricks and Chad Knaus and JJ are doing something illegal now, and have been at least for the last 3 years. Then the heir apparent will come along to JJ and they will cheat for him. It's all show business and entertainment anymore, not real racing. It basically stinks.

I'm glad other fans realize that the #48 does indeed cheat and that Nascar looks the other way...

What does Nascar stand to gain by doing this?

sorry guys, didnt see the race, but i think jimmy johnsons success is a mixture of hendricks motors and chad knauss's ability to adjust a race car. if he blocked the #29 then he is a smart race car driver. if the #29 was faster and put him in the wall for blocking then i would tip my hat to the #29. it is simple to me.

There are probably at least 10 or 15 drivers that NASCAR would rather have carrying the torch for the sport from a PR standpoint.

JJ's "problem" is the same as JG's problem was/is. He's not one of the good ole boys.

the move to block Harvick was some of the best driving i've seen in some time. i have a feeling that Johnson was setting the trap for several laps.

even my dad commented on what a great piece of driving that was. and he generally disregards a majority of NASCAR wheel men as glorified taxi cab drivers.

you don't have to like him, and i certainly don't, but you can't take away from anything he's done.

If Harvick doesn't drive it into the wall, he more than likely passes Johnson for the win since he was clearly faster on that last run.

Johnson had the best car for the majority of the race, anyway.

he was outclassed today.

and he was outclassed last week.

moral victories are for losers.

I guess that's how Kenseth won the championship while winning one race.

You're crazy if you don't think Harvick has had the best car the past 2 races.

Yeah NASCAR really wants one driver to dominate the sport for five years so the fans will get tired of it and quit coming to and watching the races.

Harvick had a faster car, Johnson was the better driver. He won with a slower car.

i disagree. Harvick could only drive his car on one line. had his car been better, he would have been able to move down the track, and make the pass.

Everyone has a great car at Daytona, just look at the finishing order.

Harvick had the best car today for about 5 laps today, and he put it in the wall. Otherwise Johnson was better all day.
