I’m interested to see what the season holds. I have heard a lot of people say this year might be better than last. I’m not really sure. We lost a lot of talent. I think it depends on if our defense can play like last year. I know we can run the ball. If we can improve in passing that will be great.

The Blue-Chip Ratio reminds me of the scene in Cinderella Man when Russell Crowe says, “You think you're telling me something? Like, what, boxing is dangerous, something like that?” What you’re saying is that teams with more talent have a much better chance of winning championships? Now I finally understand.

I would speculate that as the playoff field grows, teams lower than .700ish will have less of a chance than when the playoff was at four teams. The more rounds you have to play, the greater the chance talent will win out.

Certainly a good over all sign for direction we're moving. I think it also spells out a couple of other things...

1) if you have talent but are not dialed in w/ QB or coach/system on both sides of the ball, you get the Sooners last year, who rank high on talent
2) we're #9 in SEC metrics, which says we've got a Talladega Super Speedway log-jam of talent in SEC, where the goal of the season is keep progressing and don't get fancy and pull risky moves that will take you from lead group to the back of the pack in a heartbeat.

The one thing that bugs me about the blue chip ratio is the disregard for transfers. The portal, both in and maybe more importantly out, has a huge effect on talent. I think the 247 talent composite is much more accurate.

Not sure I agree with the article but I do think Heupel is adding good "depth" to the talent pool in Knoxville

In 2026, someone will undoubtedly do an analysis and determine that there is a direct correlation between the amount of money a team is willing to spend on their roster and their chances of winning a national title.

I am curious what the other teams looked like the three years he mentioned, and how many of them were above 60. Might put some things into further perspective.

I'm very interested as well. It's a complete enigma at this point. A few things I'm curious to see how they play out this season:

1. The obvious one---QB play
2. The running game with a more experienced Bishop, Lewis and the addition of Star Thomas
3. The defense
4. WR play; particularly interested to see how much of a factor that a pure athlete like Boo Carter will be playing both ways

Just to name a few. It could be a playoff year, it could be a Music City Bowl year. I suspect we will get a few questions answered in about a month. Syracuse will be a game that we will be favored by more than one score, but they are also a respectable opponent. If we can win by multiple scores that will be encouraging.

UGA's QB is trash! I know lots thought we had a good chance to win last year. I think the chance is even better this year at home! Getting them early with question marks for both teams should play in our favor at home! I also think UTs D could be comparable to UGA's this year.

Great point! The recruiting has been solid, but not exceptional! UT also hasn't done nearly as good at teams like Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss and many others in the portal. Heuple and staff really need to step up their game in the portal for UT to take another step toward being ELITE!!!
