Its time to take back Neyland. Neyland used to be a place that visitors hated to play in. Not all that surprising when the sound of 105,000+ fans washes over you in a tidal wave of rage. But since 2000, the Vols have lost 16 games at home. Only once during that period did the team manage to go undefeated at home (2007). The stadium named after one of the greatest coaches and a man who was no stranger to the 'fighting spirit' has given up her resolve.

But now change is in the air. From the new energetic staff to the renovations to the stadium itself, change is here and its long overdue. Lets all take this new season with all its changes and seize the opportunity to take back Neyland. Lets make it a place that visitors hate to come play again and a place that the UT faithful take pride in defending. This place is ours. Its more than a building. Its where those of us who love UT football come to join together to lend our energy, our spirit and our voices to those who play below. Its a hallowed place. Let those of us who call ourselves Volunteers ensure that those who visit remember and respect the house that Neyland built.

Great Post!!! I completely agree. And please, as true Vol fans, don't leave in the third quarter. Stick with it no matter what and help root on our Vols. Most of these kids are giving up for years of their lives to entertain us without any monetary compensation. The least we can do is give them a little extra "rooting" time!!

You never have to worry about my enthusiasm when kickoff rolls around. However, if we are playing like garbage and I feel like leaving in the second half to go somewhere else to bang my head against a wall, I'll do just that.

I understand. We all have the freedom to do whatever we want. However, I still hate looking up in the fourth quarter and seeing half the people leaving or already gone. I mean, if you have already spent the time and money to be there, why can't you just stay a little longer and catch the end of the game? Think of how much of an impact it would have, not only on recruits but other fan bases, to see that gorgeous sea of orange for a full 4 quarters. This (along with increased enthusiasm during the game) is really the only way we can make it again one of the toughest places to play at.

Some of the people that leave in the 4th quarter are at every home game and drive 1.5 to 2 hours to get there. Unless it's close, we leave sometime after the 4th quarter starts. My husband works 6 days a week, Sundays start at 5am for him. So we don't add another hour by leaving when everyone else does.

Having said that....I am SOOOO looking forward to October in Neyland this year!!!!

The availability of tickets due to the economy this year really make it an opportunity for the longtime fan who could not afford season tix nor drop a hun per ticket to the scalpers. Hopefully the dearth of corporate customers will enable boisterous Vol fans to make Neyland thunderous again.

The reason this all happened is the introduction of online ticket sales that allowed prices to soar because of the auctioning off of tickets. It's the same reason tickets cost so much now for professional season ticket holders. The online ticket sales set the market price for tickets really high, the ownership took note of it and raised prices. This increase in costs, coupled with broader availability, results in a different fan base, be it families or the older crowd that doesn't get into games like the loyal crazy fans that might not be able to afford a $200 Florida ticket.

It's still annoying.

Good post. I can assure you that I "give my all for Tennessee" at every game I attend, and as a new season ticket holder this year plan on making my presence known for at least 6 games this year.

The only game I've ever left early is the debacle in the swamp in 07.

I get to go to every home game and have a total blast. I'm fine with you being annoyed if I have to leave ahead of the traffic sometimes.

It just looks bad, when big bare spots start appearing in the stadium because people are afraid of sitting in a little traffic for their beloved vols. I'd rather people who were willing to watch the entire game sit in the seats, rather than those seats being wasted in the fourth. Oh well.

We spend well over $1,500 during football season to watch the Vols play. And I don't give a damn who you'd rather sit in my seat. I was there every home game last year when we sucked. We stay when we can, and leave if we need to.

Sounds like you are overpaying by over $375.

One of the reasons why Neyland has lost it's mystique is so many uber-proud season ticket holders take off well before the game is decided. I'm sure they all have their reasons, but home field advantage would be better off with the seats filled. Tough pill, but not really debatable.

Sounds like you just want to argue since I never said we spent that on tickets.

This was fun for a little bit but now it's just kinda stupid.

Vollygirl, there is no need for you to get angry here. What IP and I were simply stating is that it does make us look bad when people are leaving well before the game ends or is even decided. I understand your argument completely, you paid for the tickets and you leave early to avoid the traffic. These are very rational and good points. However, you do have to admit that it does make us as a fan base look bad when we all start to crowd the exits early. What I was saying earlier is that these boys give us four years of their lives, why not give them a couple extra hours? They put so much heart and effort and to simply leave early is injustice to these kids. They deserve better than that from this our loyal fan base.

When did I say anything about you spending it all on tickets?

Still fairly fun for me.

:clapping:

Telling me to sit down isn't going to make me sit down, in fact I'll probably stand and jump up and down even more.
