#53, Colton Jumper could be UT's MLB for a while. So, I thought it would be good to take a look at his potential. Can he be good, or even great at the position?

After watching his highlights from 2016, I believe CJ has the potential to be very effective at the MLB position.

Thoughts?

Just the fact they have not been able to recruit over him is what makes me the most worried. He's limited, everyone knows it.

here are already 23 "how good is Jumper" threads. Let's merge.

If CJ can make tackles at the LOS and not "catch" runners then he will be fine for GT. Hopefully he has gotten stronger this off season. He is very smart as how the defense needs to align. Just needs to become a head hunter. Go Vols!

he came in and did a respectable job for us last year, i wont throw dirt on him, if he is named the starter I trust that he is the best option at the time....period

No he wouldnt. he wouldn't see a snap at Florida, Bama, Auburn, LSU, or any other team who consistently win a lot of games. The fact he hasn't been recruited over is laughable.

Let's discuss your point.

UT has had a few good years lately, and CJ has been a contributor. Looks like the evidence is against you.

I expect CJ to be improved. He will make some good plays (like the ones against UF last year) and he will look bad on others ( such as last years UGA game). Hoping he plays like a stud all year because we severely need him to. Go Vols!

wouldn't start for any SEC team. I'm sure he works hard but he isn't SEC quality imo.

You know, we are an SEC team.

And he's probably gonna start on Monday.

So does that mean he WOULD start for any SEC team? And that he IS SEC quality?

I'm thinking yes, to both of those.

I'm also thinking our coaches know a hell of a lot more about SEC talent levels than any of us here in VolNation. And they're the ones picking him to start over all the other options.

Hmm....

Sure he's had a few good tackles 7 yards past the line. He was atrocious against Oklahoma a few years ago, he's a major liability don't kid yourself

I don't see why everyone knocks him. He did very well last year from what I remember. I'm not worried about Losing DKJr.

Pivot, change focus. What's done is done. Let's focus our efforts on DKJr's recovery, and rooting for CJ every play!

Go Vols!

Yeah, he may not be a superstar, but he will be effective most of the time.

On a side note, how about we get some Slayer on 3rd downs at Neyland?! Iron Maiden is my favorite, but Slayert can be brutal. Talk about striking fear in an opposing offense.

sure, we are a mediocre SEC team who has been terrible for a Decade. If you think talent like Jumper would have seen the field in the 90s and early 2000s you're lying to yourself

Well, I sincerely hope you are dead wrong, but we will have to wait and see.

My intuition is that he will show significant improvement due to being a senior and the new conditioning program.
I hope so. I want him to be Ray Lewis I just think the fact he's getting playing time shows how much we have fallen.

So you wouldn't trade our success in the past decade for any of theirs?

Great question.

I wouldn't trade our failures because without bad days, we don't understand the value of the good ones.

That said, I'm ready for some great ones, and hopefully this coming Monday is great for Tennessee!
