He's starting this thing with a clean slate just like he said the players are doing.

Whether it works out remains to be seen. Could be the next Smart or he could be the next Dooley. Just depends on how well he learned under Saban.

Smart folded up like a lawn chair in the second half of the Championship game....Saban took him to the woodshed. UGA had a great D, but without the dynamic duo RB's this year, highly doubt they'd a made it.

No one should feel anything about Pruitt until the team generates on-field results. Reading the tea leaves of his background and quirky press conference mannerisms is mental onanism. Going forward no coach at this university gets smiley faces for anything but wins.

Valid points on Smart. Still has proven more than Pruitt thus far though.

I don't buy into this whole line of thinking that because these guys coached for Saban the success automatic ally translates.

It really comes down to once burned twice shy. Kiffin left for his dream job. You will be hard pressed to prove to me that UT is Jeremy Pruitt's dream job when his very DNA spells the word Bama. I'm looking a little down the road and I have a lot of trepidation. I really want this guy to win a ton of games for us, build us into a powerhouse and purge that crimson **** from his veins. It will take time.

And I think you are being a little intellectually dishonest if you think CJP would have been Phil's first choice had he been starting at the same time as everybody else. There were few big time dance partners left when Phil walked out on the floor.

The only way bama could get him back there is if Saban retired or jumped to the NFL, and then neither Dabo or whomever else Saint Nick had a'waitin' didn't wind up in Tuscaloosa. Do you know? From what I've read, Coach Pru ended up being what's popularly considered to have been Phil's best choice; an opinion about which I certainly agree.

Now, about the heart of the matter---your mental battle over this hate thing you have for your personal demon--- that nasty bammer juggernaut. What's best for our Vols overrides our dislike and deep rooted disdain for that bloody tide, at least for most of us. I'll tell you right now that my blood runs as orange as anyone's, but notice, also, that hate doesn't override reason in my (nor most others') hearts and souls. It's coaching that's in Jeremy Pruitt's DNA, bro; more-so how well he does as opposed to with whom he's doing it. My point is this: Maybe you can reach out to your furthermost boundaries of imagination, then find some twinkling light out there blinking "It's OK. Hit the brakes for 2018 ... even Saban couldn't make chicken chit into salad. He lost to Louisiana Monroe his first year at bama.

Needs two cycles of recruiting to get it together. Smartt inherited much better situation from Richt than Pruitt did from Butch.

Yes, but Pruitt is inheriting a better situation from Butch than Butch inherited from Dooley (or Dooley inherited from Kiffin). This current roster is far more talented than the ones Butch and Dooley inherited. There is some talent on that roster at a variety of positions (QB, RB, LB, DB). Offensive line remains a huge area of concern. There is paper talent on the defensive line, but those guys have badly underachieved. I hope a defensive-minded coach and a new staff can get it out of them.

Next year there will be growing pains, but we should still make a bowl. I think it is possible that they make clear strides in year 2 and win 9 regular season games. That would still mean losing to Georgia, Florida, and Alabama but winning every other game. Remember, Butch couldn't even do that.
