Should we take the ball first to get ahead or wait til second half?

part of me says take it and score set the tone. but if we don't score on the first drive then we put the defense in have to perform and stop them coming out of halftime. but if we take to start second half we need to score on that drive.

Take the ball. I've seen too many games where they took one back. Don't want a Brandon Jacobs crowd deflation on opening kick.

I probably would have agreed, but with the kickoffs being moved up 5 yards id let palardy boot it deep (hopefully out of the endzone). He has done pretty well at kickoffs thus far.

The one thing I have been impressed with Palardy thus far, is kicking through the end zone, so I am comfortable with deferring.

National TV, ESPN Gameday on campus, CDD sends a message.

We win the toss, CDD takes the ball from the ref and walks it to the 50 yard line and puts it down right in the middle of Neyland Stadium. He then screams "Your Ball, Bring It!!"

Defer 100% of the time. If we plan on scoring we'll have to kick to them anyway. Doesn't matter if it's opening kickoff or not.

All my NCAA football wisdom tells me that getting the ball at the half is better than receiving it to begin the game.

Take the ball. The first TD in this game is crucial. Whoever goes up 7-0 (if the opening score is a TD) will control the flow of the game. We can put a lot of pressure on the Gators by building a lead.

And, I think we have to be ahead after three quarters by at least 7 to win. If it comes down to defense and FG kicking in the 4th quarter, we'll lose, IMO.

I wouldn't mind seeing an unexpected on-side kick to start the game. Remember the one we pulled last year vs. Cinncinatti (although that one wasn't the beginning of the game)? Imagine how Neyland would be rocking if we could pull another like that off.

Take the ball for the first half, then at the second drill the return runner and make him fumble then scoop and score!

I would defer. Having the ball first to start the second half is crucial especially if the Vols are up at halftime. That first drive score in the second half will deflate the gators if it puts us up 2 or 3 scores. Forcing the gators to be one dimensional in the second half is how the Vols win big.

Take it and drive it down the field and score in like 2 minutes.

You gave me a bad memory of 07 Alabama.

Defer. Get a quick stop and score and start tightening the grip on those bastards.

The first possession of the second half is so important, big fan of deferring.
