Pssst...it didn't cost the program a penny for him to sit on his ass.
The program doesn't pay players.

Know how things work before proposing to be smarter than folks within the program.
I know exactly how it works.....and I didn't say who in the program. And money can be spent on other positions of need.

Psssst...You might know how things work before you open your pie hole.

Again, no one in the program has anything to do with a player getting paid. It costs them no more for Nico to sit than a walk-on who never sees the field.

Spyre isn't part of the program. So WTH are you saying?

This theme about him being young which he was should somehow be used to look aside, excuse, or limit the damage his actions in this matter caused falls on my deaf ears.

Why?

Because we have many young men and women, some younger than Nico manning a post in hostile territory all by themselves terrified but doing their jobs in the US military tonight. Check out the Vietnam Wall sometime and look at the ages of some of those who gave their lives for this country. I turned 19 years of age abroad in defense of the good ol' USA as well. So this give a youngster a break does not work well for me. I hope he learns from this and improves his character which has been heavily damaged. But he was in a grown man's position and many treated him that way but apparently he was not yet there. Some never get there, hope he does for his own good.
Young, kid, immature all that crap goes out the window. Players are getting paid to be professionals at this point.

Long time lurker. I get the frustration, but let's rise above. Nico came from LA to Knoxville, and let's face it, for $. We all celebrated, but maybe like now, it was a family decision, not his. Most all off us fell in love with UT, exploring Gatlinburg, the history of Cade's cove or cat fishing with roommates with a case if ****** beer at bull run. He simply may not have. Money aside, the kid deserves to be at a place that touches his heart like Knoxville did mine. (I'm from MN)

May not be popular, but despite $, a certain place may not bring happiness to everyone.
18 yes he has had to learn the difference between right and slimy. Should have hitched his career to a better group of personal representatives. He made his bed and in this current atmosphere he’s gonna have to sleep in it

If Nico's contract didn't include clawback language for UT, then it's no surprise Nico decided to get another bag, especially after seeing the writing on the wall about his supposed elite QB skills. There's no NFL guarantee money, especially for mid QBs.

No hard feelings for Nico. Best of luck to him wherever he goes.

But I can't speak for his teammates that he just quit on--and make no mistake, when he didn't show up on Friday, he quit. They may not be so forgiving if he encounters them on a field again.

It's between Nico and Spyre, not UT. Unless Spyre is underserving of even a $1 donation, they're contractually protected.

I heard somewhere that since Nico's contract was the first one like it, it didn't include certain protections. I am no expert.

Either way, he is a mid QB trying to get paid a second time before he becomes a NFL bust.

Read the section in this article under “Josh Heupel wouldn’t understand this fatherly advice” and you’ll understand the influence his father wields over him. It goes back a long way in his football career. And his brother suffered for it as well. Again, part of the culture and Nico wouldn’t go against it even if common sense says he should have. His father led him down this path and he is paying the price.

I hate to say it but this hasn’t phased me at all. After Kiffin’s BS, you can’t shock me with anything coming out of Knoxville…I challenge you to try.

Sorry, but with the money he was making our fan base has every right to give him h*ll. That money could have been put to much better use. Also, given his salary and mediocre performance, in the real world he would have been fired anyway.

Nah I'm good. He and his camp pulled this stunt on the last day of spring training. That is absolutely diabolical. 100% intentional, too.
Bingo. Steven A. and Shannon Sharp have a good opinion on this, and well stated.

Fair. I bought into the hype of Nico. I thought he was a generational talent from LA that just happened to love Dollywood and the Smokies. I was fooled. My whole point of this thread is that I hate we cant trust any of it anymore.

They are all year to year paid players, and most won't ever enjoy fishing a cold stream in the national park or a cold beer searching for catfish at bull run. 7-5, 8-4,whatever... call me Dabo but I want THOSE guys

He's not a kid, he's an adult. Why do we need to treat him like a child? He's old enough to deal with the consequences of his own actions and shouldn't expect any pity.
