Take away Dobbs running skills we are average at best

CBJ's last year at Cincy (actually 2011):

Rushing: 491 attempts for 2350
Passing: 392 attempts for 2699

That's a 56% rushing to 44% passing. It seems pretty balanced to me, especially since he won 10 games that year.

Like most coaches, he molds the offense to match the skill set of the players he has. Again, I believe, at least in part, they are calling plays they think Dobbs and company can execute well.

EDIT: The stats above are from 2011. Not his last year

2012:

Rushing: 543 attempts for 2695
Passing: 371 attempts for 3104

That's a 59% rushing to 41% passing

Yeah. I've looked at this myself. My response was to those blaming the OC while absolving CBJ. It is not realistic to believe DeBord in any way has free reign.

And that is directly tied to the o-line.
The OL should improve when they get the personnel right.

When Dobbs has an actual pocket and isn't dodging tacklers, he's been dropping dimes this year.
No he isn't. The two long TD's were NOT great throws. They were 50/50 balls that Malone made plays on. If Dobbs had thrown on time and on target.... Malone would have still scored both times without being touched.

Like I said all off-season, its the o-line that is holding our passing game back. NOT DOBBS.

And.... you are still wrong. The OL has its problems. Dobbs still has some of his.

When Dobbs starts using the whole field including the deep middle then you can talk.

That's any team that's good in college football..

"Take away (insert player name) from (insert school) and they would be average.."

take away his running skills and he is 4th team and i believe we may be a better team by the end of the year. Fact is, he is a really good runner and is the starter because of it.

Wish they had let Dormandy pass while in at B@B. I know we were in clock management phase of game, but VT marched down the field in the last part of Q4 virtually unabated. Wouldn't hurt for Dormandy to have some experience in case Dobbs go down and especially to prepare for next year.

In addition to all of the other lackluster offensive calls by DeBord, I wish these coaches weren't so prone to take their foot off the gas. Other major teams don't do it.

Where do these guys/gals come from?

That is what we will be faced with next year. As I said before, "As Dobbs goes so do the Vols".
well the good news is he is a good runner. we may just have to live with the notion that our big splash plays won't be rainbows to Malone or Williams, but 20 yard scampers by Dobbs instead.

if we can do that consistently 2-3 times a game and he had 10 carries for 70ish yards/game, then that opens up everyone else hopefully.

the trick for me is 1st down offense. to run the ball we want to, at some point we have to get the defense out of 7 & 8 man fronts. so we have to be more creative in the passing game...not necessarily more assertive or impatient.

to be fair, it's been a minute since we've had a guy that will go get those. Jennings made a great contested catch as well. Williams has yet to show he has "it".

the WR's can help Dobbs. not every ball will be a dime. but with the supposed talent we have at WR.....go get it.

i don't think Dobbs is Joe Montana, mind you....but when he does put it where the guy can catch it....well, that may be all you can ask of the kid. know what i mean?

I agree with that absolutely. CBJ knows exactly what's being called and has fully endorsed the approach.

I added the stats because I wanted support that CBJ teams aren't that way by tradition, and if that's true, they have some reason for doing what they're doing.

I'm not saying they are the second coming of Vince Lombardi, but I don't think they're just being obtuse. I believe they're playing the hand they hold.

running predictable whoopsiedoo high school plays every down is what will make you predictable. Better get someone back there who can elevate this passing game.
