Tailgate tech help question

As you may or may not have seen I just sold quite the tailgating rig. I'm not a know it all some people may have had great success but in our experience using wifi hotspot to stream a game is near impossible. We had a sling box, and unlimited data through AT&T. If it was a 7pm kick at about 6 am i pulled about 45mbps at 9 about 35mbps, at Noon I pulled about 10 Mbps and after 1:30 we couldn't even stream a YouTube video. I was nowhere near my data cap, it was just so bogged down. Kinda like trying to load Facebook or even sometimes send a text in the stadium. We broke out the Dish Tailgater and it changed our life lol. Some cords yes but undeniable reliability. That's my 2 cents.
Carbonvol,
I have been debating last several years on getting one. I have the 211 receiver and can add on my mothers dish network bill. I have seen a few of the portable tailgaters dish antennas on Craigslist and Amazon for less than $300. How long does it take to set up on game day?

Yeah that'll work. Get the Kodi XBMC app and you can stream all the games through the Sports Devil add-on. The quality of the streams is pretty
good, SD in most cases.

Compatible with Windows, Android, and iOS. All the instructionals you'll ever need are on Youtube.

To setup and find signal and get going 15-20 minutes

That is expensive but would be worth it for free wifi and restrooms.

Yea its well worth it, easy access to I-40 when game is over. Bathrooms porta johns and normal ones all over the lot, wifi. Can order calhouns curbside to go and never leave your tailgate.

I may have missed it and somebody already said this but dish offers a thing called the "tailgate " I think. It's like 7 extra per month or something close to that. I'm definitely doing it this year. And it's just a rough draft white ball looking thing that you just sit in the parking lot near your TV and it automatically finds signal. It's also good for watching games out side at your house as well

How many spots are there? I think last year we parked at a church underground parking near the preschool and you cant really tailgate there. I would love to be outside when tailgating.

I would say probably 100 or 150 spots. Its a pretty unique setup, just be prepared for lots of visiting fans because calhouns is a "hot spot" for visitors. But its a ton of fun and a ton of tailgates, probably a 10 minute walk to the stadium but you walk right beside the river and the big boats the whole way. I'll say it again if its a big game OU for example with a 6pm kickoff you better get there no later than 9 am.

Ok, thank you. Was my first trip to Knoxville last year and we made it Calhoun's on Friday last year. Glad to hear we can park to tailgate. Hoping for night game (Arkansas) so I can experience Neyland at night and have plenty of time to tailgate.

My guess Arkansas will either be 12 or 745 just depends on how things are going I guess

Was hoping someone responded to your post. According to their website you have to purchase the equipment and then pay the $7 additional for the reception. Do you have DN now? What is your take on the service? I currently have Direct and wonder how Dish compares for quality and HD channels?

Yes I have it now and I have had it for about 4 or 5 years. And I really like it alot. The price has stayed the same for about 3 years now. The HD is great. The only thing unless changed in the last month or so bc I'm going thru a house remodel is that espn u isn't HD. But they may have changed that bc they were supposed to. I ha e America's top 250 and I run 4 different tvs. I have 2 tvs in my man cave. And it's in the 85 a month range. But my parents had direct and always had trouble. Personally I will never switch. If I were you I would say switch. That's me tho

I have the tailgater and honestly its not worth it which is why im seeking other options. I only use it 3-4 times a year, I dont even pull the thing out for noon game tailgates not enough time to screw with it. The initial money goes to get the kit 400 bucks then you pay 7 a month. Not something you can just add and drop etc plus you also pay 20 extra a month for the "connection" for your tailgater box which you pay regardless of use.

I've got a question for those of you that have generators. What size generator would you recommend to power a TV, satellite dish setup?

I had a Honda EU2000 it was nice but a quiter and less expensive way is to buy a deep cycle battery and a 750 watt power inverter. A wal mart deep cycle battery $70-120 and inverter around $70. This has done trick for me last 5 years with same battery and inverter. I use TV, Fan and can use game system or satellite receiver if I want.

I thought about something like that, but how long does the battery last?
