I am planning on attending the Pitt game on 11 Sep 2021 this fall. It will be my first game at UT and first time at an SEC stadium overall. I'd like to get the "full experience" when it comes to tailgating and pre-game activities and want to hear the best suggestions. I'll likely be arriving in Knoxville Thursday evening, so would like to take advantage of Friday/Friday evening as well. College football gamedays are basically the best thing in the world, and I love going to new stadiums to experience new traditions.

I went to a Clemson game for the first time a few years ago and had a friend of a friend of a friend situation where they invited us to their tailgate and it was a much better experience teaming up with some regulars than anything we could have hoped to put together on our own. We'd be happy to pay for/provide supplies/food/drinks if someone would be willing to be our UT tailgate "mentors". It's unfortunate the game is at 12pm so not a full day of tailgating, but we're very accustomed to starting tailgates pre-dawn when the time calls for it. There would only be 4 of us, so not a big group. I'm looking forward to a new college football experience.

I’ve got you! We set up on the river (south) side of the stadium. And we always try to host some new folks at least once or twice a year. We would be happy to have you.

That would be great. I should disclose that we're coming as Pitt fans, but I've found it's a lot more fun to let the home fans show us how ita done rather than end up making a mess of things on our own.

From what I can tell it sounds like G10T is the food of the parking deck and the most coveted/fun places?

Yes it is. Pitt fans will be welcomed all over campus. Would love to meet and greet. If you need any, suggestions or info don't hesitate to ask.

@nicholashoma beat me to it.

I have a group of five (4 Oklahoma State Cowboys and a Longhorn (dropout), all respectable) who started a "Tailgate Tour" where we travel to an iconic stadium / fun gameday each fall.

This is Year 3 (Auburn and Wisconsin) and Knoxville was high on the list; we were booked for the Florida game last season but that obviously fell through.

My mom is actually a Vol alum and I grew up (and still am) a fan. I even frequented VN during high school keeping up with the Bruce Pearl squads, Bryce Brown recruitment saga, and everything else crazy that happened post-Fulmer. I tried to find my old handle without any success lol.

I went to a few games at Neyland when I was much younger but I'm excited to get back as an adult and get the full tailgating experience. To that end, we also would love to offer money / beer / whatever to stop by any fun tailgates you guys throw. There'd even be some cool commemorative koozies we make for each trip with your name on them.

I help run a pretty good sized tailgate in Austin for Longhorn games so we may be able to work out a reciprocal agreement in the not-so-distant future...

Thanks and Go Vols!

So I found a parking pass for G10T for the game online at a reasonable price so I bought it...guess that shows I'm committed now. I'd definitely be happy to recruit you guys as "tailgate consultants" to join in with us and show us how it's done, or coordinate some side-by-side setup.

Any idea how early that garage would be open to start tailgating? With a noon game I'd like to get started early, and I'm not opposed to the pre-dawn setup. If it were a later game I'd consider bringing my smoker, but there just wouldn't be enough time. Still maybe a small grill? Depending on how early I could get set up would dictate how I approach those things.

Thanks for everyone's input. I'd be happy for anyone here to join us and we will provide drinks, etc. in exchange for helping us have a good time. You can reach out to me via email at nicholashoma@gmail.com and we can coordinate. I've got the G10T pass, so hopefully can have a good time under an open sky!
