I am looking to get a new t.v. guys. I want to trade in my 48" widescreen projection and get a flat panel.

I have a divx dvd player, and I play xbox and wii on my t.v. I am looking to spend between $800-1300. Give me some ideas.

If anyone lives near my area, Cookeville area, tell me some good places to get treated right and get a good deal.

I appreciate any help I can get.

Whatever you do, DO NOT go to electronic express, off of exit 287. They completely screwed up the entire process when my friend was getting his 50" plasma.

I bought a 50" Samsung 720 plasma back during the summer. I love it.

Wish I had bought bigger, but this is all I had room for.

We went with the plasma due to the hard screen. I have 2 year old.

I wanted LCD...but thought we better get the plasma.

If you do a lot of gaming, I would probably go with an LCD just so you don't get too paranoid about burn-in. I play some xbox from time to time, but not enough to worry about it - so I went with a plasma. I

Samsung, I got a 40" 1080p for around 1100 bucks. Can't go wrong with a Samsung. I got a blu-ray for it too.

Oh, it's an LCD.

i agree here. i would also piggy back by saying that if your tv is on for long periods of time regardless consider lcd. i would definitely suggest doing your research and it can be a gamble going plasma with it getting hot. lcd is pretty good and will last longer in most cases. good luck.

There's a lot of great deals out there. You can get a Panasonic 42" plasma for around $600, the 720p version. On a set this size, 1080p is overkill unless you sit 2' from the set. I have had this set for 3+ years, paid $999 on Black Friday at Best Buy. It's hands down the best bang for the buck. I have it in my living room.

I was looking for a good 32" tv for my bedroom a year or so ago, and found a Toshiba Regza LCD 1080p on Amazon for what I was about to pay for a 32" set, so I bought it for the bedroom. It's a very nice set, but my plasma's picture is better.

We have a PS3 and Wii hooked up to the plasma, and don't worry about burn-in. That was an issue a long time ago. Go through the proper break-in for the set, and you'll be fine.

Samsung makes an excellent LCD. Beware the Sharp Aquos sets. They have banding issues.

Oh, and perhaps the biggest tip, NEVER buy cables at the big box stores. They are marked up 500%. Go here Blue Jeans Cable -- Broadcast-Quality Cables at Reasonable Prices to buy the same thing for 1/10th the price of the Monster cables.

Yes, I have used monoprice, too.

When you hear the sales pitch at Best Buy or Circuit City for these Monster cables, and they are $100+, you "have to have them to get the full HD experience."

It's nauseating that people actually fall for it and buy them.

well my understanding is that the cables that came with my ps3 were the lower end quality cheap cables. from everyone that i talked to, told me that because i bought a 40 gig ps3 and not the upper and much more expensive models that i did not get the included monster cables that come with those. i am only able to get up to 720p off my ps3 and i have multiple hdtvs that should be giving me 1080p. i have checked all the settings on the ps3 and my tv's and can get nothing higher than 720 for games that should produce up to 1080i and 1080p. the blu ray looks great and clearly looks much better than what the games should look like. so my thoughts are that my cheap cables are not cutting it. so what am i not understanding to get a better picture than what i am?

If you go plasma (my preference) the Panasonic deals are great. Amazon has some great deals - that 42 720p that Vol Daddy mentioned is a great deal. Check the model #s - the "80s" (eg. 42px80u) have a lower contrast ratio than the "85s" (42pz85u) - also, the x = 720; z = 1080p I believe.

Any of these would be in your price range.

Finally, there may be some deals coming on Pioneer Kuro's (great plasmas). Pioneer announced it's getting out of the TV business so they might be clearly inventory soon.

I got a Panasonic plasma last fall (TH-50PZ800U) and I love it. I would recommend a Panasonic just based on my experience.

I have heard some good things about the Pioneers if you can find a good deal on them.

My plasma is a panasonic as well...been very happy with it...
