Syracuse QB Angeli Scouting Report?

I don't know much about him other than he had a few good highlights that impressed me when I was looking at Spring portal QBs.

What is worth noting is that Rickie Collins was originally named the starter in Spring. So Angeli must have performed really well to overtake him as starter with such short time to compete for the job.

Personally, I thought Syracuse would go into our game with them without naming a starter, or giving Collins the start and interchanging them. They have two cupcake games after our game, so to me it made most sense to let them battle it out for the first three games of their season.

I don't be knowing if we passed on QB Angeli or Angeli passed on us, but playing against him in Game One scares me. We should beat Syracuse. However comma Angeli is a dangerous opponent. Haply, our Defense will have a good day, but that is not guaranteed. Angeli has done jobs on good defenses. No way Coach Banks will sleep on him. Knock, knock, knock...on wood.

That's what I think too. When he entered the portal, I was hoping we'd get him. But Syracuse plays at Notre Dame this year, so maybe he was wanting to prove something to Notre Dame.

Angeli is a traditional pro-style QB. Above average touch on deep passes, likes the underneath throw, and wants to be safe/smart. He is somewhat of a statue in the pocket and not very athletic, which may hurt him behind a brand new OL that isn't super revered. Syracuse likes the intermediate passes in which McCord feasted on all year - we haven't gotten to see a whole lot of that from Angeli. He will need some time from his OL to have those plays develop. We will likely see both QBs at some point is my guess.

If you are asking Vol fans on VolNation, the answer is simple. He has very little game experience and is playing an SEC team. No way he can be ready to play. He was only a 3* in HS.

Actually he is just the type of QB who in the past looks like a Heisman contender when he plays against us. Usually it is some random backup QB that was a 3*.

I am trying to understand what impressed y’all about him other than being a ND transfer? He essentially has two games experience in two years, got beat out for the starting job by two different transfer qb’s and left ND in year 3 when he should have been competing for the starting position but was clearly passed over again.

The Notre Dame team that won two playoff games?? The ND team that beat UGA? Angeli looked good against Penn State in the playoffs. Hopefully our pass rush is on.

In fairness to Angeli, being a backup to Sam Hartman and Riley Leonard is nothing to be ashamed about. He looked very good in the Sun Bowl and also in the 2nd quarter drive in the Orange Bowl against a very good Penn State defense.
