If UT meets Duke....The blue devils want no part of UT inside game they struggle to rebound the ball and I think Josh can give Parker fits on the defensive end...then Parker will be worn down by having to battle down low against JS and JM

had no idea josh richardson would be tasked with guarding a power forward.....

I'm really worried about Martin's recruiting. Our post play will be brutal next year and beyond. Besides that, who's gonna score? Hubbs and who else?

What makes some people think Stokes is "likely" to return?

Duke is crazy soft against a post presence. We have an easier answer for them than they do us. Or guards will have to shoot but when they miss, they have to fight their ass off for a single board. On the other end, second chance points will be limited because they don't have a strong post player. Plumlee is weak and suspect.

Our only struggle is Jabari Parker and I can see Armani or Josh having a great game way more often than Plumlee. Jmo.

Really good assessment of Duke. I live in NC and have seen them quite a bit. They are a fun program to watch. For the reasons you state, I agree that Tennessee could beat Duke this year, if they continue playing how they have been these past 5-6 games (minus the 2nd half of the FL game). The one thing you missed is that Duke will get every questionable call because…they are Duke and that could factor into the outcome.

Plumlee isn't weak, he's just not yet ready to play heavy minutes. And when you say the bolded part, I hope you realize Rodney Hood is a probable lottery pick. But Tennessee is a lot bigger than Duke and has been defending better than Duke lately as well.

Plumlee is weak right now. Rodney hood isn't my main concern. It's Parker. I believe we can deal with Hood. I think it'll be a great game though.

You guys are such babies.
Assuming we win tomorrow, we probably got the best draw we could have hoped for. If we can get Parker in foul trouble and lock them up in D if would be a hell of a game. Duke is very beatable.

They keep calling it the group of death. I agree for the too half. Not the bottom. We got a lighter road than we have in the past due to favorable matchups.

The problem with Zo is we are gonna suck beyond belief next year.

Recruiting 1-3 elite players a year is all that is required and he will be coaching it next year.

IMO this team could be slightly better defensively, cherry on top if Stokes sticks around next year!

I've been a Duke bball fan Vol football fan all my life (I know flame away) and have watched just about every game both teams have played for about the past 4 years.

With that being said and knowing a little about this years UT bball team I think UT has a chance to win, but they'll have to play a neat perfect game like they did against UVA.

I think what many people overlook is how athletic Parker is, especially with the ball in his hands. He has a very quick first step and that alone with beat JS all night long. And yeah, Richardson could guard JP but then who is able to stay with Hood? Those two players pose big problems for UT bc JS can't keep up with Parker if he takes the ball to the 3pt line where he can also make those shots. Why I think Duke would win the game eventually is their depth and amount of players who can go off on any given night, starter or not.

As a quick note about the boards, Duke can get rebounds with the best of them. They have outrebounded many teams they should not have and have kept it closer than it should have been. Amile Jefferson is the reason why bc he is very long and athletic; he is also very overlooked on the offensive end and has silently kept Duke in many games this year.

Do I think it's possible UT can beat Duke? Absolutely. But to put it simply, Zo would have to have a great game plan and the team would have to execute it perfectly to win. A lot of things would have to go right for UT and a lot would have to wrong for Duke to lose. Duke made it to the ACC championship game and stayed in it and played very subpar the entire tournament. But it's possible.

If we manage to beat Iowa, such overlooking of UMass is crazy. They are 24-8 in a conference far better than the SEC.

They have a dynamic senior PG that averages 16 points and 7 assists per game and a very good 6'10 big man who averages 12 points and 8 boards per game.

Solid PG play is vital in the NCAA tournament. They have a huge advantage there.

Beating duke is possible . Heck we slaughtered UVA. For some to say we don't have a chance is dumb.

Not so far fetched since, as we all know, Duke is losing to Mercer in the opening round.

I know that's sarcasm, but stranger things have actually happened to Duke in recent years. Anyone remember Lehigh?

PHP:

He's done it before. Plus, Jabari isn't your normal power forward. But if they did that, I'm not sure where they'd put Maymon

We would need to go with a 4 "guard" lineup IMO. Sulaimon, Hood and Parker on the floor at the same time would likely be the most athletic trio we would've faced all yr. Got to have Barton, McRae and J Rich out there plus Moore or Reese.

Our toughest Game to get to the sweet 16 will be tonight. If we win, we beat UMass and then Mercer...yes Mercer...then its a rematch vs Michigan. GBO!

Tennessee - lacks discipline and consistent scoring down the stretch, lead by a mediocre coach
Duke - foundation of discipline, lead by a legendary coach

not so good

Have to beat Iowa and UMass first. But if by chance we do that and play Duke I'd be really worried about Parker. They run their offense through him so if by chance you shut him down the chances of winning is pretty good. But shutting a true freshman that is averaging like 19 and 9 isn't going to be easy. He can do it all, play in the post, mid range, and perimeter. Then you have another super athletic 6'8 wing that's just as tall as our biggest player (stokes) that can play inside and out and shoots 40% from 3 Rodney Hood that is also a lottery pick. Oh I forgot to mention that Sulaimon and Dawkins are shooting 40%+ from 3 and Quinn Cook isn't too far behind them. So this whole we matchup well against them is false. They could tear us up from 3. We would need a UVA type day and they would have to be as physical as they were against Florida.

But Wake Forest found a way to beat them maybe we could too. Would love to see it and hope our Vols come out ready to play! GBO let's take care of Iowa tonight!

Has Tennessee beaten two consecutively ranked teams or even top 60 teams in a tournament since Cuonzo has been our coach? No, they haven't. The only two consecutive tournament wins we have are against Xavier and Wake Forest and those occurred after losing to UTEP and only one of those teams was top 60 RPI.

This is concerning. Iowa will be a massive test tonight.
