Swain is Debbie Downer re: TAMU game

So, pound for pound, TAMU's defensive front is that much better than UF? I'll hang up and listen.

There are only 2 or 3 teams in America who could go 4-0 playing these four teams on consecutive Saturdays. Not only is it difficult to get up for 4 games like this in a row, the physical toll on the players begins to show up in 4 consecutive physical games.

A strong Athletic Director would never let this happen to his football program.

Iirc AD has no control over SEC schedule. Just OOC

Why? Why do we have to do this before every game? Same crap happened before Florida. Let's all write ourselves off before the game.

THATS WHY THEY PLAY THE GAME!!!

I like Swain's show just as much as anyone but giving the VOLS no shot is a bad call. Anybody can beat anybody anytime. There are no absolutes in football. We have a very talented offense that can erase deficits in the blink of an eye. We have a better chance to win than you think.

I understand that on a year to year basis. However, Vols have been unable to move Florida from the first of the year b/c the Gators have refused b/c of FSU game. Always end up with a front loaded SEC schedule causing Sept and Oct to be very tough gauntlet.

A good AD could address this and make his case a little more forcefully, IMO. Happy to see LSU game between UK and Vandy next year. Would love to see one of those schools or Missouri change places w/UF at least on they years where UT is the home team.

Appreciate your insights, what am I missing here?

AD can't do anything about the conference schedule we get dealt. The Florida, Georgia and Alabama games have been roughly in the same spots on the schedule for years. Yeah, it'd be nice to have an off week in there, but all you can do is play the schedule.

As bad as this stretch is, the last 5 weeks are about as good as it gets for an SEC school.

I honestly don't think that any team in college could go 4-0 in this stretch.

Clemson - no

Michigan and Ohio State - no, they about 2-3 decent teams each year and beat up on average teams at best the rest of the year.

Louisville- Maybe, but they did lose to Clemson and Bama is better than Clemson and TAMU is not far behind from Clemson.

Washington- Hell no, cupcake schedule doesn't even begin to describe their schedule. They have only played Stanford all year.

Houston - Eh I doubt it, they have a great coach but have only played one decent team this year Oklahoma, and they got to prepare all offseason for them.

One thing I'll agree with you on.... The SEC should stop playing games during the same weeks every year. They ought to randomize it like they do in the NFL.

Seth, why'd you let Jason be all negative today?! Tell him to eat a snickers or sometihing.

Plus Vols are trying to do it w/o 3 of their top 4 defensive players and now their best RB may miss the last two of this stretch. Factoring in injuries, Alabama or Ohio State may be the only two teams who would even have a chance of 4-0.

Swain is not giving up on the Vols, he is just using facts to talk about the game. With both starting LBs out, this is not a good match up for the Vols. Never count this team out but the oddsmakers have Vols as a 7 pt dog for a reason. I do enjoy listening to Swain.

Just think if Vols and Gators had played in last two weeks of last season. It would have been for the SEC East Championship and a shot at the SECCG.

Jalen Hurd situation has not been handled horribly, Jalen is most likely not injured. Jalen will most likely play. I think Butch put out that he was injured, to hide the fact that he benched him for poor effort. Jalen Hurd is a great talent and we are lucky to have him, but if he has checked out waiting on the NFL, we have to move on. TAMU will be our greatest challenge and we will need maximum effort to win.

True.
But, just imagine if this would have happened elsewhere.
For example, what if Florida had been scheduled to play UT, UGA, LSU, Arkansas .... All 4 back to back with no open dates...Foley would raise Holy Hell....but, he wouldn't need to,,,because conference office would never do this to him.

And, just imagine Bama having to play UT, Ole Miss, Tamu, and Ark all in a row. Saban would have Bill Battle castrated.

Hart has never held any sway or respect from the guys in the offices in Birmingham.
Our schedule this year is criminal in nature.
And, I never heard one peep from Hart.
Glad he is "retiring".
Really hope we hire Blackburn.

LOL! I have no control over what Swain says. I don't think that he was being overly negative. He's just pointing out things about A&M that could give the Vols a lot of trouble. He isn't counting Tennessee out at all just taking a realistic look at the match-up.

Hey Seth,
Thanks for responding here despite you getting some negativity from posters. Classy.
My question for you is about the Knxville
media reluctance to ask Butch any follow up questions.
Why wasn't he asked these specific questions yesterday:
What is the exact nature of Hurds injury and when did he suffer it?
In addition to a "lower extremity injury", did Hurd also suffer a concussion?
If so, why was he in the game on last play?
Was there any benching of Hurd for his nonchalant fumble?
Why is Hurds status "day to day"?

Thanks, in advance, for your answers.

No problem. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. People don't bother me at all.
We will ask follow ups unless we know that he just won't answer them. CBJ isn't going to go into any detail about any injury unless it's a season ending one and he's taking a lot of flack for it.
As far as him being benched that question doesn't need to be asked because he played and scored after the fumble.
His answer to being day to day would be that they aren't going to discuss injuries.

Thanks to everyone for listening to the show. Swain and I appreciate it greatly.

So do I. He didn't appreciate the opportunity and privilege of being on the field in a UT uni. Then he got hurt apparently. He's been worked really hard all season. He needs to sit for a minute. We have four very capable backs on the roster. Hurd will be back healthier and with more purpose. Plus it sends a message that no one is bigger than the team...because they aren't. Well done Butch.

You all have to be some of the dumbest people I have ever seen. NONE of what is going on has anything to do with discipline! Butch has even came out and said it. You really think Butch is going to sit his starting RB and best blocker on the team to prove a point? You think Butch Jones doesn't want to win this game? Jalen is hurt, has been hurt and will not be playing this weekend, and I certainly feel for Dobbs cause there's a good chance that he's about to be lit the **** up all game? Alvin and John are great, but have you ever seen either of them carry the load "and" block all game against a stout SEC defense? No, and there's a reason for that.
