Sutton V. Tabor

Well Sutton was only a 3* and Tabor was a 4* so that automatically puts Tabor as the better player. I mean we all know star rankings are all that matters.

Tabor is the better DB. Period. The stats don't lie homie.

Sutton is an incredible returner though

I think Tabor benefitted from playing opposite VH3. We'll see how he does this year when he is guarding the number 1 receiver every game

Cam Sutton's sophomore season is the single greatest individual season I've ever seen from a UT player.

I know you are sitting here thinking that is ridiculous or hyperbole and I expect to get some flak for it, but hear me out...

You can research it yourself.

Go back and watch the defensive plays from that season. Count the amount of yards he allowed.

I'm telling you now, it is almost unfathomable ...and I don't know why more people didn't talk about it

HYPERBOLE, HYPERBOLE, HYPERBOLE, All is HYPERBOLE...By the way, what is HYPERBOLE.:ermm:

To me, the hype around Tabor is similar to David Amerson that used to play for NC St. He was a preseason AA and I was at the game where we torched him. I counted at least 4 times he got beat and they were for huge gains or TDs. Tabor will be the same way.

To be fair, Amerson had a really good NFL season last year. Advanced stats had him as the 15th best CB in the NFL

His soph year was amazing but part of that was the QB going "should I throw towards the good corner or the bad one, I'll throw towards the bad one". Also Sutton was starting to get talked up about being a true shut down corner then the Bama game happened where they burned us on 2 go routes to open the game. Sutton had the coverage on the 2nd TD and he got blown by. That's when the chatter died down

That point is hard to argue for sure. It is totally valid that his insane numbers were in part because teams were pre-snap deciding to pick on our really bad corners.

I think Cam will end up going very high in the draft for a couple reasons. The pass rush this year is probably going to be as good as we have ever seen, and our DB's won't have to cover their man for very long at all. I also think his PBU and INT stats will be markedly better because of how well we get after the QB. Another thing that I think we will see this year (now that we're in Shoop's playbook) is alot more corner blitzes. So it wouldn't surprise me to see Sutton have a few sacks this year too, given his speed.

Cam is beyond solid. But look at the stats, Tabor is better. Take off those orange glasses.

Meh... I think stats can be deceiving, especially for a CB who is playing on the opposite side from someone who is generally regarded as a top 5 player at the position. That said, I honestly think Tabor has a higher ceiling and is a higher draft pick, but I guarantee you I wouldn't trade Sutton for Tabor for this upcoming season. Factoring in the return game, the leadership, and the experience, I think Sutton is a more valuable asset at the collegiate level, even if Tabor is a better straight lock down corner.

Hard to compare for me so far.

Tabor played with a better all around D that put pressure on QB's consistantly therefore he had to cover for less time and that also made QB's make bad decisions more, and he also had a top corner across from him covering the best WR.

Stats make it appear Tabor is a little better, and he may very well be but hard to say with all the differences IMO.

Cam on a D that brings a lot of pressure and is a top 5 D all around and him covering the 2nd or even 3rd best WR on a team and he would have better stats than Tabor IMO.

No doubt I would rather have Cam in my locker room. Plus he's a helluva return man.

Also I've thought the step back we seen from Sutton last season may have something to do with him devoting so much more of his time in the return game. A lot of time at practice devoted to return and taking more snaps on game day, taking hits when he has always been the one dealing them. Couldve had an effect on his game. Or maybe I'm an idiot, was just a thought I've had.

Thats one battle that I will be watching very closely. I have a feeling several of the Vol players will be looking to take a shot at him

The shots he's taking from his own teammates aren't all that pedestrian.

After both players were suspended Wednesday for fighting, a scuffle that left Tabor with multiple stitches above his left eye.

I remember white lightening blowing past him. Enjoyed that.

I will say this; if I'm an NFL GM I would take Sutton over Tabor if given the choice. Why? Because you will get a whole lot more out of Sutton. Both players have a great skill set, but Tabor is likely to cause trouble for you, and when you are trying to win games and there are millions of dollars on the line then you go with the safe bet. I don't think that there is enough evidence to to suggest that either player is head and shoulders above the other anyways.

I thought from the title this was going to be a former lady vol vs Cam in a cage fight. Wishful thinking I guess.

To be fair, Amerson had a really good NFL season last year. Advanced stats had him as the 15th best CB in the NFL

His game against us had to beyond frustrating for him. The hype about him was built up and our skill position players picked on him for it.

IIRC we had an excellent O that year and a horrendous D. Patterson has made a lot of players look silly and he did that to Amerson a couple times that day.
