Sutton focused on graduating

Why? Several (or more) doctors and lawyers out there with storied NFL careers. Steve Young for one has a law license. Billy Cannon aced dental school back when that was a tougher road to hoe. As driven as he seems, it should be no problem.

yeah..guess I was just thinking of how quickly I forgot my pre-professional stuff..shouldn't do that as I've always been Mr. Short Term Memory. :)

Reading comprehension is at a premium around here. Stop over complicating sh:t, look at what was said, and be proud that Sutton indicated he will be a VOL for another year.

It could be a million-dollar decision, but SUTTON INDICATED earlier THIS WEEK he DOESN'T expect he'll even have a decision to make AFTER THIS SEASON.

"I don't think so," he told the Times Free Press. "I think my biggest thing is graduating from here. I'm so close to graduating. I'll be done next December. My biggest thing is finishing up school.

Looking at it again, you've made a good point.

The majority of undergrad was a complete waste for me.

F.W.I.W...CBS sports draft latest projections it has JRM early 3rd round and Sutton late 3rd. Gut feeling is they both are back as they know next year can be special. I feel if they both have good senior years they are both first round locks

Why anyone would want him to be less successful is really confusing. Shouldn't we want players good enough to jump to the NFL? He can get a degree anytime
You mean you wouldn't like to see Cam (or any of our great players) on Rocky Top for another year? I know I was thrilled when Peyton chose to return, and I would be of Cam chooses to stay as well.

With that said, I fully understand and support players who choose to leave early, and, honestly, I'd do the same. As mentioned, you can come back and get your degree if you just put a fraction of your NFL money back, and most bigger athletic programs now allow for previous players to finish up their degree later.

You can only play in the league for a limited period of time while you can still get your degree when your 40, and the fact that you'd be an ex-NFL player that went back and got his degree would be enough to get a good career somewhere.

JRM is a tweener...unless he adds about 15 pounds of muscle while maintaining his speed than 1st round doesn't seem like a possibility. The NFL weighs so heavily upon combine measurables and JRM doesn't have ideal NFL LB size. No question he's a great college LB!

Hard to say with Cam. Size is OK but who knows what his combine 40 and shuttle times will be? Has been a good power5 CB for 3 years and his punt return skills of late have been impressive. I'd say he has a better shot of being a 1st rounder compared to JRM.

Yeah, I think JRM is reaching his ceiling re: draftability. Unfortunately, he just doesn't have the metrics that could launch him into the first round. He's had a great year and shown that he can be an excellent LB in the toughest conference in America. I'd be stoked if he comes back, but I don't think his draft status would change too much. Hopefully he stays for his senior year! He is a beast for sure.

Wish we had some clarification. But to me, next December is 2016. This December is 2015.

Idk

I don't think he's coming back and I don't blame him. He's going to have awesome measurables (40 and shuttle) and has no real history of injury. He's gone

If I were him and I knew I would be a 2nd day selection in the 2nd or 3rd round and I also look at "Too Maggit to Quit" and see the injury he suffered, I would declare for the draft also.

We always hear about stories of returning seniors getting injured but to actually see it on your team from Maggitt, then it really sinks home as a reality. I say he leaves.

Thanks for posting. I thought Cam was no better than a third rounder this year.

It's shoddy writing that the reporter didn't clarify which December Cam meant...but based on context, I'm betting he meant that he'll graduate at the end of this semester.

Context is if you read the full quote (ie, first sentence), it does mean December next year:

It could be a million-dollar decision, but Sutton indicated earlier this week he doesn't expect he'll even have a decision to make after this season.

KBVol liking your post pretty much confirms it.

Maggit's injury was freakish. It was in open field with no opponent around, in no way should any other player look at that and expect it to happen to them.

Yes. The article was posted today, November 13th so saying "Sutton indicated earlier this week" would mean Sutton said it within the last 7 days.

Would love to see this link.

I hate people asking for links but this is big news

Cam is one of the most mature young men I have ever heard speak. He has got a good head on his shoulders and a true VFL IMO!

If he has a good head on his shoulders, and he has a fairly certain first round grade, then he will be declaring for the draft.
