Surprised to see no QB controversy threads

QD threw a deep bomb right on the money to Williams. I haven't seen Dobbs make a throw like that. That said, Dobbs needs to start. Remember what happened the last time we tried to cut a freshman's teeth for the first time in the swamp? (Hint: Peterman)

There is no controversy. Dobbs threw some great passes Sat. No pass QD made was tougher, or prettier than the first td Dobbs threw to P Williams. When Dobbs has time he throws it great as we saw Saturday. He also is more mobile and experienced. Dormady won't take Dobbs job. He may never even start a game here.

Both the beautiful fly route for 49 yards and the roll out TD pass that was about 35 yards on the run on a rope to PWill for a TD were more impressive.

Dobbs' throw to PWill was a very nice throw however. Also liked the pass to the middle of the field early by Dobbs to Wolfe.

If Dormady continues to progress and Dobbs does not with regards to his ability to throw the ball accurately deep down the field, we may very well have a legitimate QB competition in the Spring, that also includes Sheriron. That being said, you're not paying attention if you haven't noticed how incredibly high the coaches are on Dormady....he'll play here at Tennessee.

Yes, let's put in the true freshman on the road at the swamp. I mean, hey, he threw a TD in garbage time against WCU! Smh

while i dont think there is gonna be any controversy, it's hard to deny Dormady's ability to throw downfield with accuracy and make plays after escaping the pocket.

Sure it was against WC, but he looked pretty good. Would love to see how he'd fair against a much better defense, but we won't be seeing that for awhile.

What throw did he make Saturday that Dobbs can't make, or already hasn't already made against better competition? People say this but what are you basing this on? What NFL throw did Dormady make Sat? Dobbs threw a perfect back shoulder fade first td. One of the toughest throws to make. Lets see QD do that.

The 49 yard go route to Preston. Dobbs has yet to make that throw in his time at Tennessee. Perhaps he can make it, but he hasn't yet.

HE PLAYED AGAINST WESTERN CAROLINA, this is unbelievable.
Yes Dormady looked good I know. But seriously? Starting him in the swamp? No no and no

Heh, I tried (twice) to start a tongue-in-cheek QB controversy thread last night at the tail end of the game, but one of the mods must've not liked the idea because it got deleted within just a minute or two, both times. After the first time, I thought I somehow failed to put it up; after the second disappearance, I knew I was angering some mod god somewhere. :)

Bottom line is, who knows how many threads (serious and joking both) got started and deleted last night on just this topic?

Clear 1st amendment violation. Let us be heard!

Dobbs has struggled were I expected him to struggle. Dormady has all the tools to be a great QB for us, but starting him on the road against a Defense as good as the Gators makes no sense at all. Dobbs will get better plus the O-Line hasn't exactly been giving him lots of time in the pocket. Dobbs running ability along with his command of the playbook makes him number one with a bullet. Add to it that he is without a doubt the leader of this team.

I certainly don't think Dormady earned a starting job by torching an FCS team, but it's pretty clear to me he's a more polished passer. Dobbs is the team leader and vastly more experienced, but after seeing several lukewarm Dobbs posts last week, I was surprised to not see anyone stirring the pot.

Anyway. Here's the token post.

If he plays poorly against FLA it will be relentless and probably rightfully so...

It's amazing how many people don't read the thread. You've got people coming in here left and right saying sarcastic things about starting QD in the swamp, which absolutely no one has suggested.

I see why so many people avoid the FF during the season. Sheesh.

Oh, are you one of those high and might RF posters?

Not that you are, some people over there seriously think they're better.

Butch made the mistake of giving a player his first start against Florida in the swamp and it shattered his confidence so bad he isn't even on the team anymore.

He isn't dumb enough to make that mistake again

I never make judgments from a game played against a hapless program. It just proved that the inexperienced guys who got playing time still need to be developed further. Yes there were some great plays made by players that were expected to make them. However, they made them against a bunch of lower rated players.

Now, let's see what they do against Florida. Then we will have something to base opinion upon.

Dobbs has made better throws on rollouts against real teams than the td to Williams.

Dobbs back shoulder fade was perfect and went about 35 yds through the air on the money for a td. That was by far the toughest and prettiest pass of the day. Lets see that from Dormady. Dormady hasn't shown anything that Dobbs hasn't done.

We don't know if he will play a lot here. The coaches are super high on Jones also who everyone says has the quickest release by far. Gurantano is more talented than all three here too.

Dobbs is not looking comfortable in Deborg's system, very unsure of himself and the passes are not crisp and he is not leading the passer very well, something is up, his accuracy should have improved vs. what we saw, Dormandy seemed comfortable and he takes control of the team while on the field..........I am just hoping CBJ's loyalty to a player does not get in the way of a W. Urban Cryer took his starter out and JT Barret had more control over the Offense, give NIU credit, their defense was ready.

It's not about who throws the prettiest pass or is a practice hero, it's about leadership and who gives the team the best chance to win. Right now, that's Dobbs and it isn't even close.

I'm as big a Dobbs homer as there is on here. Strongly disagree with your first 2 paragraphs.

I haven't heard or read anything about Jones having a quicker release "by far" than the other two. I watched all 3 qbs at the open practice and didn't see much difference between any of the three that day.

What I have heard is that both QD and Sheriron throw the ball better than Dobbs, which despite the fact that Dobbs is definitely the rightful starter this year, isn't too difficult to believe. If Dobbs doesn't get better stretching the field with much more accurate down the field accuracy, he's gonna have a battle on his hands to be the starter in 2016. As far as JG, you're probably right about his athletic ability, but I'd bet he'll redshirt next year.

Dormady is already better than Peyton was in his prime and next year as soon as Guarantano steps on campus, he will already be better than Dormady and Peyton ever dreamed of being.
