Every year there are expectations put on highly decorated freshmen to come in and make an impact, fair or not. Last year we saw a highly decorated class headlined by the likes of Kahlil McKenzie, Preston Williams, Darin Kirkland, Jr. and Drew Richmond.

Ranking recruits is not a perfect science and there always seems to be a surprise recruit that comes in below the radar to make an impact, small or large. Imo, last year that player was Chance Hall. Coming off an Achilles tear and missing his Sr year of high school, I doubt many felt he would make an impact on the OL as a freshman, but he did. Granted, injury thrust him into action sooner than anticipated, but you can't argue with the impact he had...significant.

Who is this years surprise impact freshmen?

Besides Byrd..

Look for one of the freshman WR to make impact
I'll take Marquez Callaway -

Osbourne in the nickel position..

Nigel Warrior making plays on ST ..

I think Byrd will have an impact season, but it won't surprise many. I'll go with Marquez Callaway. Kid can be a major playmaker who's kinda gotten lost in the large group of late WR signees.

It'll be Byrd, Johnson, or Callaway IF Dobbs and CZA execute properly.

It would have to be Brandon Johnson since I don't expect anything from him.

I expect guys like Callaway, Byrd, and Williams to make an impact.

Hear Johnson is impressing in the summer...

I'm going to go a different route and say that Ja'Quain Blakely's name gets called out on ST a lot...

I'll be surprised if the majority of the frosh dont redshirt.

That's what most of thought going into the season. But apparently many are impressing. Especially the WRs. I expect Callaway, Byrd, Williams, and Johnson to all play this season.

I also expect Nigel Warrior and Marquill Osborne to play a lot on special teams. Bituli could be in line to backup Kirkland at MLB.

So that's 7 freshmen I think don't redshirt.

I hope Blakely redshirts. There's been a groundswell of opinions that Bituli is Kirkland's heir apparent...I'm rooting for this kid at that spot.

Would be ideal. I think he's underrated and talented. I would think the roster is deep enough to exclude many incomers, but I like this kid, what can I say?!.. :)
