3 guys (AJ, Maggitt, and Coleman) look to be in good shape to either start or play a lot of minutes. Two of those guys were 3* when we signed them and got bumped in the next ratings. Coleman was down to us and Kentucky, and people were bashing his commitment until he got a bump later on in the year.

Lanier and Moore also look very good and not another set of JUCO busts.

Richardson and Marcus Jackson are going to be in the two deep right away.

Arnett and Dallas have impressed.

Tom Smith and Marlin Lane have looked great.

Clear and Downs are battling it out for the 2nd TE spot.

Good Post! Most of us know that he can evaluate talent, it's just the few thick skulled morons on here that can't realize it.

Much love on Volnation this evening. I'm as excited about the future as everyone else.

i mean, its not like these were diamonds in the roughs.

all those guys were on everyone's radar

judge his evaluation skills based on the kids he went after that few teams were recruiting but he felt he saw something.

I Like Dooley, but drawing that conclusion from that bunch is a bit of a stretch

This board is so bi-polar it's ridiculous. After the last scrimmage there was wailing and gnashing of teeth over how bad we were. Now it's all sunshine and daisies. I don't know if the unwarranted pessimism or the blind optimism is more annoying.

Coleman? Downs? I really don't think anyone last year outside of Young didn't have some big offers.

Blind optimism? Are you not optimistic over how our recruiting class has performed so far since they've been on campus?

You don't know how they're performing. All anybody knows is what the coaches tell them is going on during closed practices. You're basing optimism off of hearsay from the coaches. That's basically the definition of blind optimism. I'm excited to see how the freshman class is going to play this year. My point is that people are going overboard on the praise just like they were with the crying after the first scrimmage. We don't know what we're going to see on the field this year.

Because Dooley usually sugarcoats his feelings.

Dooley feels good about the athleticism and size that was brought in with this class. Nobody, not even Dooley, knows what kind of freshman mistakes are going to be made. Or how this class is going to progress in their learning of the schemes. Or even how they're going to hold up through out the course of a season. And I'm pretty sure he'd be the first one to admit that if asked precisely because he doesn't sugar coat things. All I'm saying is don't start popping the bubbly just yet. The good news coming out of Fall camp could easily turn into a nightmare this season. It wouldn't be the first time that's been the case at UT.

You are thinking short term. My optimism is long-term while noting the short-term impact by some key freshmen.

I have been impressed with the intelligence of some of these kids also. The SEC is in the process of setting higher academic standards and we are going to be much better prepared than some of these 5 star teams that are loaded with prima donnas. They are going to have to do some real tutoring at some of these other schools to keep up.

Good to see Milton step up in this scrimmage - though he might be in danger of becoming our next Slick Shelly

Don't understand why all the knocking of being optimistic for the year. If I am not mistaken, we are undefeated as is everyone else. Not saying I am drinking the Koolaide, but will alway love and cherish the Vols. They are the team I root for no matter what.

GO VOLS!!!

AJ was a 3* when we signed him? Didn't remember that.

I would agree that it's a bit of a stretch (because most of those guys were highly rated), but so is saying that all of those guys were on everybody's radar. Coleman wasn't, and I don't think Smith was either.
