Support butch jones

I think for most it's not THAT we lost, as much as HOW we lost. We see the same issues continuing, now 5 years in. They can longer be blamed on personnel. It has to fall on the shoulder of the highly paid professional coach at some point.

Boro-vol on fire!

Amen to all this.

If the dumbass had given John Kelly the ball 2 more times we wouldn't be having this discussion. Deserves it and more

I'll support his efforts to find another job. I'll even support him by helping load the truck.

I'll then thank him for the rebuild, and the recruiting...and support him leaving East Tennessee.

All the best in your new endeavours coach.

I will throw in $20.00 to help fill the gas tank in the truck

I was a big CBJ backer up through the Oklahoma watch. He lost me after the following Florida loss. Kept hoping he was adaptable and could learn. Officially lost any hope of that Saturday night. He has used up all of his chips at my roulette table.

Beecher are there concerns with this game regarding the boosters? I can't imagine they are content with such a failure- we are the joke of college football at the moment. Surely Currie isn't happy about it either.

This one sentence says all that needs to be said about whether Butch is the man to get us to the top

When you have to have your schedule "set up nicely" for your coach to win, that coach needs to hit the road

Well it's one of the first times we had a bit of a better schedule. And that's not the main point. Point of the post was he isn't close to Dooley and we may end up finishing better than next year. The schedule reference looks at who we have left. Look at USF. Still ranked and playing no ranked teams.

People may not like this post, but firing Butch Jones will set us back another 5+ years.

Support Butch he didn't lose the game, poor execution lost us that game. Should we have given Kelly the ball on the 1, yes, but we also should have not had penalties in the red zone. We shouldn't have shanked a punt to give them field possession. We shouldn't have let a WR run past us.

The program is in the best shape it has been in since 2006. Stay the course and support Butch.

thats a load of Butch Jones...just stop it

I support all coaches until the season ends when they should be evaluated (unless it becomes a catastrophe mid season).

I am going to laugh my butt off in a couple of years when Butch pulls a Pearl and goes to another SEC school... Texas A+M maybe... and comes back to Knoxville and beats the crap out of us....

He couldnt beat derek dooley. Miss st. might want him after Mullen leaves, and thats about it as far as SEC interest goes.

Huh? Probably? If he goes 10-2, he would be Coach of the Year!

No doubt. The reason I said probably is because there's still gonna be issues with Jones in the back of everyone's mind, including mine. I've been a non believer in Butch since year 3, I saw the path we were taking and it wasn't pretty to me even back then. I will never take for granted some of the things he's done for the program in and out of the classroom and bringing in talent, but game day coaching is absolutely not that mans specialty. He should be going for his 3rd straight East title and he just pi**es it away every year. You're here to win/compete for SEC and NC's, our expectations are sky high. You just can't think that 8-9 win seasons are what this university is about or you're gonna be under fire in a damn hurry.

OP stop trying to make excuses. You still support Jones? Thats fine. Many dont. Including myself. I have seen enough at this point to know that Butch's time at Tennessee is done.

I swear some of you act like we just lost to the worst team in college football.

Do you even watch other games? Do you not see that teams that use the shotgun rarely every go under center on short yardage? It is the nature of the offense. The interesting thing is that coaches you name as replacements run the same style and would do the same thing.

I have come to realize that there are some who don't really want Tennessee to win EVER. The enjoy the chase after a new coach. They enjoy arguing. They enjoy the bashing. It gives them something to live for I guess.

The boosters were sold on Jones with recruiting. Best I can tell at least some of them felt like he was a work in progress as a coach and would recruit his way up while maturing as a coach.

Just speculating, but games like Saturday in year 5 raise eyebrows, especially given that UF team is not very good.

To me Saturday was just further conformation for some that have been questioning his coaching aptitude for awhile. As I stated earlier, this is not just about Sat.

The problem that was alluded to earlier is, what do you do now? UTs $,AD and influential people have not been on the same page in the past. If that doesn't get fixed your stuck with mediocre. Either Jones or another salesman.

show me a video where any of the coaches named threw the ball 3 times on the 1 yard line while he had a rb rushing for 150 yards

Actually, 8-9 wins seasons is exactly what Tennessee has always been about. We should want more and watching a game like Saturday's is rough but let's be honest about who we are so that we can celebrate and enjoy it when we do well.

I think this team could still win the East. There is a lot of football left to be played. John Kelly might be my favorite Vol be since Eric Berry. Nigel Warrior and Callaway are both pro players. We haven't set what JG can do. There is still some fun to be had. Let's let it play out.

Butch knows his job is on the line but I don't see any good in throwing him out now. This isn't Hugh Freeze, guys. Butch has always seemed to be a good person if not a great game day coach.

Should Georgia have stuck with Mark Richt, he had a much higher winning percentage than coach Butch cliche Jones, right?

Stick with Jones and be mediocre at best or cut your losses and find a better coach, like Georgia?

or do nothing?

8-9 win seasons are not the expectations, that's the point. You can point out an average all you want, that doesn't mean the expectations change or are any less than competing for SEC/NC's.

Did you happen to catch Jones PC today?

Time will tell if it was a smart move. Jury is still out and Richt looks to have Miami back on track.
