I guess this is as good a time as any to post this.

I'm all about tradition and unwritten rules and whatnot. Heck, there's scientifically measurable effect from always wearing the same socks or jumping over the first base line on the way to the dugout. Huh? Yeah. It's a mental game and if your socks feel different, or you think they do even if they don't, your mind focuses on that just a bit instead of your arm angle and you toss a meatball rather than a no no. Muscle memory is a thing.

But we have to face some facts. Some of us have a problem. Idk who you are, and I don't care. You do you. But, as an example, someone on here posted they were worried about wearing orange to the orange out bama basketball game because the Vols always lose when he wears orange. Huh? A good ole rally cap is fun, and who ain't in favor of an 8 or higher coed donning some rally bewbs for the team? But that doesn't impact the game. (If the coed is in the stands, well yes, she actually could distract the opponent.)

Which brings me to the point of this post. The announcer last night did EVERYTHING in his power to ruin it for the Vols. He mentioned it in every way conceivable. SBU still with no hits on the night. Vols yet to give up a hit. Vols 6 out away from a combined no hitter. There was gnashing of teeth on the game thread. What's he doing?! Heck, I even posted such, just for fun, because it's tradition. Don't mess with tradition. Also, people on here mentioned it. Some on purpose, some by mindless accident, which they then edited away.

The point? Vols still tossed a no hitter. Despite every superstitious rule being broken. Because your behavior at your house has no impact on the game. The announcer's words have no impact on the game, unless someone tells the team he did it and they allow that to demoralize themselves. Yeah, that doesn't happen.

Let it go and enjoy the game. But keep your traditions and qwirky behaviors because they make it more fun.

I agree Aerie. You just don't speak of it no matter what. Kirby had a perfect game with one out left in HS and one of my assistant coaches spoke it. Next ball was a slow easy roller to second. He missed it twice and runner got on. I thought my bench was going to kill him. Kirby did pick off the guy before throwing another pitch so only pitched to the minimum but did not get perfect game.

All about traditions and the unwritten rules. They exist for a reason.

Last night was the product of over-jinxing. It cancels out the jinx.

I'll inform my bride of your hypothesis but let me sit in the wrong chair, with the wrong clothes, or the wrong beer tonight......I'll be a victim of domestic violence.

Tis bad to steal Jobu's rum, tis very bad. Sports have superstitions, always have, always will. I'm guilty of it myself. I will change clothes in the middle of a game if we're playing bad.
