So, bear with me here

I got this game as part of a really big trade-in group with what was left at the end. I really thought it would be just an ok game that was really just an expansion or rehash or whatever not really worth the play. Like kinda fun but just a poor attempt on their part.

....A week later, boy was I wrong. I have been absolutely blown away by how enjoyable this game has been. Like seriously, though it started a bit slow in about the first world or so, I really have had trouble putting it down.
The game oozes of creativity, it's very well made, the soundtrack is fantastic and the gameplay actually getting frustratingly challenging in the latter half...but in a good way that makes me keep playing till I beat it. In the end -and i guess most importantly of all - it's just really really fun to play and to keep playing.

(I'm taking this moment to step back and say, I'm not a "fanboy" of any sort whatsoever. I don't like games b/c of characters or brand repeated names. I'm often very critical of games and series that work that way (i.e. the madden series for one). And I'm quite willing to say when I think something's bad - a friend had given me Mario Sunshine (I feel this works as an appropriate example due to...well it makes sense) and I thought (and still do) that game was absolute garbage)

It really doesn't bore or repeat itself.

Honestly, between Mario Galaxy 2 and Red Dead Redemption (a great game also, really), I lost a week and a half of my life....and I sincerely don't want it back.

It's turned out to be a really great game all around, which I guess I keep saying because I sincerely thought it was going to be just "meh" or "ok" and something to stay away from.

If you have the system, I suggest you pick it up for the play. It is a fantastic game. (If not, don't start that console war bullsh--; seriously, that's for kindergarten kids out on playgrounds back in the 90s).

Great game. Worth the buy.

i'm actually glad someone has finally had something to say on this. i picked this up for my daughter release week and i think between the two of us combined, we've played it for about 30 minutes, and that's counting going through the intro scenes 3 times. we (and by we i mean she) have just now made it into the first world and i'm counting on your word that it's just a slow starting because so far i don't enjoy it at all. maybe this is because we're both coming off of the new super mario brothers and the visual and gameplay aspects are so different, i don't know but i will say that everything i've read as far as reviews of this game say it's incredible so i'm hoping it lives up to it.

I know kind of know what you mean. I spent the first world (and I can't remember how far it was in the second, it was a while ago I'm at 118 stars now) thinking "okay this is supposed to be great....I mean it's fun but it really seems the same.

I think part of the issue was - since the game is targeting both new and old gamers - the first world is kind of used somewhat to intro and push the player along at a comfortable rate and introduce them (new ones) to the game's system, mechanics, etc., and let them get used to them. So it stays kind of simple and comfortable for a while. Once you get through the set of each level that introduces a power-up, the game starts going on it's own, IIRC.

Honestly the last worlds (starting at 4 or 5 map and on) are some of the most creative ones and the difficulty goes up later in the game too - I remember one of the reviews saying that they felt though how difficulty the later stars were might be too difficult for the new gamers

....why were you playing through the intro 3 times?

i played it just to see how it was before my daughter got home, more or less just to see what it was all about. then she tried it out again but didn't really get in to it, then again to show her mother but didn't really have time to play and then to finally get going on it.
