We should be relieved. However, don't pump up Dooley or this hire too much. It wouldn't have mattered if we pulled Kirby Smart, 'Bama's D is ALL Saban. Their recruiting is mainly Saban as well.

With that said, the guy did great work during his time at Bama and definetley has great connections. Let's hope this guys experience with LB and the DL can help us become dominant on D, but please do not over-hype this VN.

I think this matches my sentiments exactly. The part that concerns me is that he hasn't been a DC on this level at all. Not sure UT has any time left for more on-the-job training. His up-side is his recruiting - beyond that, I think it is unknown.

Still, he's got a lot of good experience as a defensive football coach, and he got national recruiter of the year. Sure it's easy to recruit to Bama, but I'd like to think that he's going to keep going after outstanding talent.
I like this hire.

I am with you on the coaching part. The DC skill set is a little different than position coach. He has to digest scouting reports, know the other team's tendencies and make adjustments before and during a game. I would suspect Sunseri can do all of this, but I don't know if he will in fact be better than Wilcox at it. I sure hope so.

No the recruiting is not all Saban. Saban is a secondary guy and his specialty on Defense

We could have hired Jesus and still some people would have something negative to say.. like Joseph really coached the linebackers in heaven or Noah did the recruiting since he's had expierence gathering 2 of each position... Negavols are ridiculous.
