Definitely disappointed in defense so far but realize we are still playing a bunch of undergrads with a new system against the best teams in the nation.....not ready to throw the baby out with the bathwater yet....

If we could tackle in space everybody would want to give him a raise... He puts our guys in position.. It's about fundamentals.

Sal needs to start doing this

Am I the only 1 that finds this disturbing

You can take the number one defense in the country and change the defensive scheme with the same players, and in the first year they won't be anywhere near as good. Going from a 4-3 to 3-4 is about as hard as it gets. You damn coach haters are clueless about the game of football. B!tching, you have down to a tee!
It is a difficult transition but they still shouldn't be as hapless as they are right now.

They could definitely be doing better but its not on Sal. The tackles these kids are missing in space is mind blowing. Have no clue where the players from the NCSU game went. They were wrapping up on every tackle.

They look confused and sloppy. To say its not on Sal is to say the overall performance of the team isn't on Dooley. I want the guy to succeed but do far his end product is garbage. I hope he gets it corrected fast

There is a reason Wilcox played more bend but dont break "D", if you cant see why after these first few games I dont know what to tell ya.

Sal will figure it out soon enough, I hope.
That's it? That's all you've got? Seriously guys, are ya'll this limited in your ability to understand what is really happening and why. I'm having trouble mustering the energy to even address this, but it is so utterly unimaginable to me that I ALMOST feel burdened to take the time to break the whole big picture for ya'll. But, alas, I do not. Just take this advice, don't go popping off about the merits of the "bend-don't-break" or wonder out loud about why we don't still use it or why our defense is having trouble in the first 5 games in front of any knowledgable football folks/higher than highschool coaches. Capeesh? :salute:

Did you watch the games last yr? If so, you saw Cincy RB go 80 on them, you saw Rainey go 80 twice, you even saw Vandy go 80 on them only to see the play called back for cheap shot. After Bray was hurt, most teams elected to grind it out cause they knew Tennessee couldn't score ( see LSU, bamer kentucky and Sourh Carolina) In 2010 you saw Oregon, bamer, LSU, notrth Carolina all with long runs.

Did you watch last season? Most of the players are back from a defense that finished sixth in the SEC and 30th nationally. These are the same players we have now.

Sunseri is a failure. Now we know why he he has been an assistant for his most of his career.

That's really a uneducated and dumb statement.

I've stated this many time here but obviously you never pay attention so I'll attempt to teach you something once again and hope I help you with your football knowledge.

Switching from a 4-3 D to a 3-4 D takes normally 2 YEARS even in the NFL where they practice 10 to 12 hours per day.

Our kids are students and don't get even 5 hours per day to practice like the NFL players do.

UGA and alaBummer weren't very good their 1st year when they made the switch so it WILL take our kids time to learn everything and be able to execute it well and quickly on every play.

The 3-4 is very complicated and hard to learn it all but it's the best D going because there's so many different things you can do to confuse the O.

CSS is an excellent coach and a wise choice by CDD to make the switch with.

Day 1 that CDD got here he wanted to switch to the 3-4 D but he had 2 weeks to put a coaching staff together and to try and get a recruiting class together and the right 3=4 coaches weren't available then.

I believe we'll be a consistent top 10 D after CSS gets all the kids educated and after a couple of recruiting classes to get more SEC type 3-4 D players on our roster.

I hope this helps you understand better Gunner.

Serious question -- why is CSS an upgrade?

Even though there are growing pains, I love that he is installing the 3-4 defense. Will be much better in the long run imo. He has a championship pedigree with bammer and was responsible for the stud LBs they had and just his overall fire and demeanor. He's already shown when these kids don't perform they way he demands, he is in their face.

We have been losing long enough. To hire a guy who's system takes 5 years to implement is just plain stupid. Time is the last thing we have.

Good luck enjoying those 75 yard TD runs the rest of the season. At some point you have to stop putting people in one on one situations when they continuously fail at it.

You couldn't have chosen a better name for yourself. You keep sweating it out and I'll enjoy watching and supporting my Vols. Coaches and players.
So nothing to say about the topic eh? That all you got? Stupid insults about my VN name? Good job bud.
