This whole ridiculous episode will now thankfully begin to be washed away by the surf of the 24 hour news cycle.

Good riddance.

Lane's carelessness(intentional or not), Urban's whimpering, Foley's faux outrage, and Slive's deferential bow to Florida, revealed the back doors of Southeastern conference football to be far too much 'soap opera' for the multi billion dollar institution it is.

Actual football coaching looms now on the horizon, and so much the better. Coaching the game, not playing the press, is what these guys do best. It's also where what I want most...results... are to be found.

This Tennessee staff, for all it's recruiting strengths, looks to be one of the best player developement staffs ever assembled on The Hill. A thing that too often gets overlooked by the media and frankly, by us.

One last observation on Kiffin's comments.... Just a week before signing day, Ktown media were crying that Lane wasn't talking to them enough. After signing day, the cry turns 180 to 'The guy talks too much'!... I love the ironies in public life...

On to football my friends! And none too soon.

Go Vols!!!

Amen brother! I think we will all be pleased with what this team will look like in the coming years when it has actually been well coached and players developed to their potential.

You hit the nail on the head with that observation. I thought this situation was blown way out of proportion by the media.

Doyel absolutely teed off on that one. Oh well. This polarization is going to make kickoff that much more exciting.
He's going way out on a limb there. That was honestly 5150 with the ability to write.

What surprises me is that people make the assumption only on the downside. None even remotely assume that he might have his shiz together.

It's a dramatic overreaction to the Kiffin/Meyer incident. He seems to have a real problem with the Kiff.

I'm getting tired of all this media obsession over the kiffin / meyer thing! They need to drop it and move on to spring practice.

That's what amazes me.

SEC fans tell me Kiffin's in way over his head and demonstrating his immaturity...they say he's put a nail in his coffin by antagonizing Richt, Meyer, and Spurrier...that he should prove something first before taking those guys on.

That's fine -- if he fails, he'll be the young, arrogant guy who talked a big game and couldn't back it up.

But what will the skeptics say if the brash young coach delivers and wins the SEC in a couple of years? Is that not a possibility?

There isn't going to be enough crow to go around if the Vols can put an 8-4 season together.

and if the vols slip up and beat one of those big 3, which is statistically likely, it's on.

However, it'll simply be Vol fandom, which isn't very large in the grand scheme of things. That's exactly why the media near unanimously trashes new hires and old fires.

I've been doing my broken record posting on this issue... It's not like Lane has to do this alone. Look at the damn staff! The SEC is in for a fight, and honestly, I think the Mt. Rushmore coaches know it.

I think that's part of the beauty in the whole ordeal. All of these guys jump at the opportunity to bash LK, but don't go further. The smart ones know what the staff is about and the opposing coaches damn sure know. They might not be worried about next year, but they know for sure that the SECe is going to have 3 real contenders again soon.

When Lane and Monte start beating Meyer, Richt and Saban, the SEC will be rejoicing! A new sheriff is in town, and UT beatdowns over these schools are on the way--mark it down.
