While everyone is enjoying the postseason ride right now, summer ball is underway for some leagues, with the Cape gearing up here in a few weeks.

Hopefully the Vols playing postseason baseball can’t get to summer ball for a few more weeks😀

Of course things change because of injuries or pitchers getting shut down, but this is what I’m aware of:

JJ Garcia (happy he’s back): Forest City Owls
Braden May: Forest City Owls
Andrew Behnke: Cotuit
Matthew Dallas: Falmouth
Cannon Peebles: Cotuit
AJ Russell: Cotuit
Nate Snead: Cotuit
Dylan Loy: Kingsport
Stone Lawless: Kingsport
Dean Curley: OC Riptide
Jeremy Comer: Kalamazoo
Austin Hunley: Bristol State Liners
Austen Jaslove: Pulaski River Turtles
Wyatt Evans: Frederick Keys

That’s the most guys we’ve had in The Cape either in a long time or ever.

For you Yankees fans (and to a lesser extent, Astros fans like @txbo ) Andy Pettitte’s son is in the Owls lineup tonight. Dallas Baptist, Luke Pettitte’s school, got knocked out of the NCAA tournament. Luke is DHing and can play a position, but he’s primarily a pitcher.

We'd love to hear any updates you can give us on Sean.
So far he is having his best season from a metrics and stat standpoint. Hopefully, he can keep it up! Rays like him as a starter but are also trying him as a “bulk inning” reliever. They feel he can help the big club in that role. He has no preference…just wants to make it to the bigs. lol.

The Rays org is absolutely stacked so there isn’t much movement like in some other orgs. But he has been back and forth from AA to AAA. They move guys around so they can get in their reps. Hopefully his advancement will continue. Appreciate you asking about him.

Is there any reason I should pay attention to the fact that those 3 pitchers and that catcher, are playing for the same team? Or am I just being a conspiracy theorist?
I guess what I’m getting at is, do the coaches have input on guys going to certain teams or going as groups?
Do the coaches think that will probably be our Friday, Saturday, Sunday battery, so they want them getting more reps together?

That’s great news! I feel like that organization is doing a great job with prospects, right now.
Honestly, I guess they have always developed well, just keeping them has been the issue.
Thanks for the update!
Tell him Volnation is behind him!!

Lots of schools want to send out guys together in the summer (i.e. you have a teammate from your school on your summer ball team) rather than solo. I think it's great those guys are going to Cotuit.

Yes, some schools have input, but the summer ball team has to have spots on their roster. Tennessee has relationships with teams in different leagues. Being an alum, I always want Vols on our roster. Over the years, since we've been involved, we've probably had 16-18 Vols. We also have UT student interns- one is running social media right now, among other things.

Dalton Pence, the UNC pitcher who shut down LSU in Monday's elimination game, is a former Owl. Being a Vol fan as well, I was doubly happy he helped end the season for the LSU.

Interested in your input…I’ve always believed that sending guys certain places has to do with relationships between the college coaches/ and the summer league staffs. Is that correct…like this guy can give you this but we value your evaluation?

There can be a number of factors, including relationships. In the summer, your players aren’t getting coached by high-level D1 coaches. Those D1 coaches are recruiting and doing other things, for example. Summer coaches are often D2, D3, or juco coaches. I do not mean to imply they’re not good coaches at that level, just that you’re not getting CFA if you play for the Hays Larks. One Tennessee assistant has a relationship with a team in California, so you’ll see Vols on that team.

Familiarity is important. Coaches want to send their guys to teams where they know their guys will be treated right and will have the opportunity for playing time and development.

We have Trackman at our ballpark, so we share that data with the players’ programs.

Proximity can be a factor too. Some guys want to play close to home. Some guys need to play close to their school in case they have to do some summer school.

I appreciate that, thanks! Go Forest City!!!

Is McNair field connected to Bob McNair?
The park is named after the owner of the NFL's Houston Texans, Robert C. McNair (passed away November 2018), whose contribution made construction of the stadium possible. McNair was a native of Forest City, North Carolina and played baseball on Legion Field as a child.

My peeps. Hannah. The only important surviving McNair associated with the team. 🤣
