Sumlin pursuing Chavis..

From LSU board:

FINAL
ND 31 - LSU 28

Brinza connects from 32 yards away as time expires.

If indeed that is the last game for Chavis, it ended in the way many of LSU's losses have with him as DC. Methodical drive by other team through the air.

LSU finishes the season 8-5, as does Notre Dame.

Watching LSU-Bama this fall is why I'm glad Chief is gone, he gets scared down the stretch in tight games and throws the mustang out there to give up swaths of field in short order.

I was at the Music City Bowl today & saw LSU get burned in that soft zone; reminiscent of those "mustang defenses". That said, Chavis IS a terrific DC.

No. It was more or less a comment on how I struggle to decode a post composed primarily of acronyms.

Hmmm. Ok I gotta admit I struggle myself with a few of them sometimes. However you need to get your hillbilly 3rd person nouns correct. Y'all is singular. All y'all is plural.

Edit: yes and the fact I corrected his hillbilly grammar while calling him out on a grammar post isn't lost on me either

This is lunacy.

Our defense this year was literally made of duct tape and guys with patched up body parts. We have exactly three game ready defensive tackles, all of which are severely undersized. Our starting WLB is a converted safety. Our starting DE is a converted WLB. Our starting DT is a converted DE who came to UT weighing 240lbs. Our likely starting CBs for the bowl game had a combined total of 5 recruiting service stars, and one of them was previously committed to noted football powerhouse UNC-Charlotte.

If you think Jancek, Strip, Thig, and Martinez didn't work some borderline miracles this year putting guys in position to make plays, I don't think we watched the same team.

He had the best linebacker in the SEC, one of the best corners in the nation, and a freshmen DE who would be a late 1st round draft pick, plus another great DE and a ton of underrated talent (which I already mentioned before.)

Silcox did more with less, in every way, but we don't want to talk about any of Dooley's boys. And with the class coming in on top of this one "talent" will no longer be an excuse, though sadly we will blame "experience" once more, and always will it seems.

Lsu is done, stick a fork in em'.

Chavis done at LSU?

Might be a tad premature to say that just yet. A run next year is not out of the question depending on who is hired as DC and who leaves for the NFL, we'll know soon.

Chavis has done a good job at LSU but he is basically near top of the assistant coaches salary list and is a limited recruiter.

If he goes I think there is an excellent chance he finds out the grass isn't always greener. I see no reason for LSU to up the ante, but we will see.

Chief's buyout goes from $400k to $0 at midnight. If he leaves, don't expect anything until Jan 1.

Wait, announcing a new DC on every major media market while College Football is being played and it remains on the bottom of the ticker during some old/new rivals are playing? Who would have ever thought that idea would be a good one?

This.

He has done good, but my personally opinion is LSU should withdraw the offer.

He left Knoxville under stormy clouds making $350k after being there 17 years, currently the 4th highest assistant in the country with a small raise on the table at over $1.33m per season.

He has been a huge distraction which probably hasn't help much over the last 2 weeks. LSU should not only not engage in a pricing war, they should cut their losses.
