Sumlin Officially Available

I think Sumlin has already agreed to be the ASU coach? Did ASU fans revolt?

Arizona State head coach Todd Graham was fired this morning and it's been speculated that embattled Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin could be a candidate for the job. Sumlin was a finalist for the position in 2012 but turned it down to take the A&M job and the Sun Devils subsequently hired Graham. In addition, A&M offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone served under former ASU head coach Dennis Erickson prior to Graham's stint there.

However, Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman reported via Twitter to tap your brakes on a move to Arizona State for Sumlin who has yet to be terminated by A&M or reach an agreement to leave the Aggies and go elsewhere. A&M would owe Sumlin about $10 million should they terminate him without cause and negotiations may be underway to modify that figure if he goes to Arizona State.

Am told the speculation about Kevin Sumlin to #ASU being a done deal is completely false. Source has told me there has been no contact between ASU & Sumlin or anyone who represents him.

We could still be in if he would try?

Edit: This appears to be a couple of hours old though. A lot has happened since 8:00 EST.

Sumlin, like Butch also had issues developing his players.
What is this disturbing trend on volnation of people wanting UT to hire fired coaches?
Sumlin, Miles, Strong. I dont get it.
There's a reason they were fired, they were not meeting expectations, i can promise you they will not meet our expectations as vol fans.

I agree except on Miles. He should never have been fired and would instantly be the best SEC East HC if we hired him. I wouldn't touch Strong but we could do worse than Sumlin. 7 of Miles 11 full years he had 10+ wins in the toughest division in college football. 8-5 was his worst record at LSU and if you include OK St he has had 1 career losing season in 15 full seasons with 14 straight winning seasons. Why LSU fired him will forever be in question. We would compete and win the East more than we wouldn't while he was our HC. His players absolutely love him and is known to be a players coach. It's honestly a no trainer and by far the best option available based off experience and knowledge of the SEC.

Ok then please tell us who we should hire then? Realistically.

I would love to have Miles.

Only by people that don't watch LSU football, Les knows exactly why he was fired.

Good coach, good guy...but it was time.

Lol. LSU would likely be a 1 loss team right now with Miles. You think Troy or MSU beats you? Lol. Keep telling yourself it was time.

With the personnel on this roster including the OL... I doubt they would be bowl eligible with him and Cameron. Nobody was buying what Les was selling, not even the players. In hindsight, LSU probably waited a year too long.

Keep acting like you know something you clearly don't watch.

LSU made the right move.

Miles isn’t the same coach who was in the National Title hunt on a consistent basis.

Many fans disagree with the hire, even the most loyal fans gave up after Wisconsin last year or gave up on les. Rocky start to this year, but even with the limited roster...felt like they improved every week after Troy. Most Sec wins since 2012 even with the rocky start. This would have been a disaster with les and cam.

My top three would be Petersen, Patterson or Frost. Send a Brinks truck to their house, make it happen. If no luck there then roll the dice on an up and comer, Norvell, Campbell or perhaps Venables. If any of these names are hired it would create some excitement for next season imo.
But if we hire one of these also ran fired coaches (and now some of you are actually bringing up Bret Bielema? seriously?) There is just not going to be much excitement there for next year or for years to come, they may do better then Butch but I don't think by much.

Sumlin is a good, solid coach. However, he went on a slide at Tam, from starting great to 8-5s and just ended this season 7-5.
