Suggested rule change for redshirts

I like the idea of allowing players who are under redshirt to play in meaningless bowl games.

But when they start monkeying around with these rules they have to think about the unintended consequences. We know that coaches will bend every rule to it's furthest limit, and there are many (like Saban and Belichick) who seem to lie awake at night looking for every possible diabolical way to exploit rules.

By saying a player under redshirt CAN play up to four games, it's going to mean that any player under redshirt WILL play up to within a single play of that limit. They just changed a 4-year career into a 4 1/3 year career. There are consequences to that.

Before approving this, these clowns better make SURE that every exploitable loophole is closed, for the good of the game.

Thinking about it a little more, surely they are limiting this to freshman year and/or medical situations, right? If not, then a four year starter can play a fifth year as long as he doesn't go over a certain number of snaps. That's absurd.

This thing needs to have some degree of limitations.

This will give players a few games to impress the new PAC-PRO league. Leave college after Freshman year with a 50K salary and no school and ball all day. No limit on coaching/player time.

If a player has played in more than 4 games in each of the first 4 years, there would not be any eligibility remaining. There does not seem to be a snap count condition, only number of games.

Correct. If you are on the field for 1 snap, it counts as 1 game played. Ask Rudy......:p
