Sugar Bowl

NBC sports has vandy in a bowl and has the vols in sugar? They expected vandy to be in at 5-7

2016 College Football Bowl Projections after Week 12 |
They expect vandy to get a bowl based on sos or some nonsense.

Have a question about this projection though. They dont have western michigan in a ny6 bowl. Arent they all but gauranteed a ny6 bowl?

On they other side, they have Navy in cotton which I would be very excited about.

Hopefully UT gets the sugar bowl or capital one and doesn't stuck with the low rent belk or taxslayer bowls

Wow, couldn't back into the SECCG so now hoping to back into the Sugar Bowl? Wow, just wow.

There will be 3 teams thrilled with "backing in" to the playoffs.

No one has taken care of their season with the exception of Bama. Everyone else needed help.

Your post.....wow, just wow.

APR (academic progress rate...essentially the rate of athletes graduating in the program after they enter rather than get expelled, transferring, etc).

There likely aren't going to be enough 6-6 bowl games to fill all the bowl spots, so the 5-7 teams with the top APRs are eligible for bowl spots.

Whoever's ranked highest out of the non-power 5 conferences gets a New Years 6 bid in the Cotton.

There likely aren't going to be enough 6-6 teams to fill all the bowl spots this year, so 5-7 teams with high APR (academic progress rate) scores become eligible for those spots.

Look at the bowl Vanderbilt's projected in. The Heart of Dallas Bowl isn't one that has a tie-in to the SEC (it's normally either PAC-12 or Big 10 vs C-USA); so they're projecting not enough teams from those conferences will be bowl eligible to fill both of those spots.

Line is down to 8 on the game with Vandy. We shouldn't count on Sugar birth just yet. With the way this season has gone and the fact I am attending my first game in 8 years, a loss would not shock me. The sad fact is, it would not shock most.

Doesn't the line change based on how most people are betting or something though?

Nobody is backing into anything. It's how this season is playing out. How does one get to that mindset?? Never mind. Don't care and sure, as hell, don't want to know.

Highest ranked conference champion among the power 5.

Guessing they are predicting a W Michigan loss? Would Navy beating SMU, Temple, and Army be enough to spring board them over an undefeated W Michigan?

Vandy is trending up. They played Auburn tough on the road, obviously just beat Ole Miss. But they're still inconsistent. I see Tennessee winning an ugly game. Hopefully it's by a big enough margin that we don't hurt ourselves in the ranking and have a shot at the Sugar Bowl.

LSU beats aggies, Bama beats auburn, Florida state beats Florida, and Vols are the only sec team with 3 losses. (UF loses to Bama too)

The only negative is having to depend on LSU to help us out again.. We gonna make them pay when they come to Knoxville next year..

Well that should qualify us for the playoffs!

Plan E all the way to Tampa!?!

Agreed, I've never understood the backing in arguments.

I would absolutely love a Sugar Bowl bid, and it definitely seems like a real possibility. Not a given, but a possibility still. That would help ease some of the pain from this season for me personally as well lol

The power 5 conferences are the SEC, ACC, Big 12, Big 10, and PAC-12.

What if Florida beats Florida State and then plays a close game with Bama. Will they be ranked ahead of us?
yes. if FL beats FSU, and just doesn't get their doors blown off against Bama, they could wind up in New Orleans.

if aTm beats LSU, and FL loses the last two, aTm could wind up ranked higher, and in New Orleans.

bottom line...Sugar is still on the table for us, followed by Citrus, Outback, Tax Slayer. i think that's the order.

but it's far from a done deal.

I like every match up for the SEC, except UK vs Houston. Although, UK can put itself on the map winning a game like that!

AND OF COURSE THIS WOULD BE A GRUDGE MATCH AGAINST THE Laters!

I think it's as simple as this. We win out and Bama wins out. We go to sugar bowl.

Those are two important variables, but I think there's a third: LSU must beat A&M as well, to eliminate any possibility the Aggies leapfrog us in the CFP rankings.

I dont think we will get taxslayer or outback. Neither of those will excite the fanbase. If we fall to that group of bowls, the sec will put us in a bowl close to home in hopes the fanbase will show up.

If we do go to the sugar bowl how are tickets divided up for Tennessee fund members? Similar to what it would have been for the SEC championship game?
