What would you consider a “successful” start for HB?

Also, at what point would you replace him if he’s not performing well?

Some people are expecting him to light the Gators up and win, some are expecting him to flail but show flashes of promise, some are still expecting Pruitt to tease us and trot JG back out there...

What do you think would be a “successful” first start if it’s HB?

Honestly I wouldn’t pull him unless he’s coming apart mentally from mistakes. I think we’ve seen enough from Maurer, Shrout, and JG to realize they’re not the answer. Bailey needs experience for better or worse.

No 100 yard pick sixes. Don't telegraph your passes. Don't hold the ball too long. Remain calm under pressure and move the offense down the field into scoring position. Keep the game competitive.

I would consider it a successful start if these things happen.

Success is for HB to get a full games worth of experience. You don’t pull him unless he gets hurt. So stupid that we have utterly wasted this year and that he is only just starting against gators is near criminal but better than wasting the whole year.

Personally I can’t stand watching JG on the field. But true freshman success at QB is pretty rare In this league. True freshman success with no spring, summer or fall practices before games start?? I think Pruitt and Co. is looking as mediocre as mediocre gets but I’m not sure anybody else would have had a true freshman ready to go without practicing either.

Having said that I think I’d have rolled the dice can Arkansas, we know what we have with JG

I don't have any stats or data, but, I seem to remember Dobbs spending a lot of time on his back when he started playing. The defenses were merciless on him. But, more often than not, he would make a play that hurt them because of their over pursuit. Then, later, he was allowed to make his own decisions and use his feet. That's when he turned into smoke and the fun began. All that won't happen in one game, most likely. But, the back-breaking hits aside, some semblance of the rest of it would work for me.

If he's your future you don't pull him. Pruitt will have to hitch what's left of his time at UT to him. JG has put him in a one foot out the door position.

I’d give him the whole game....tell him beforehand that it’s not necessary to look over your shoulder. I’ve seen enough of the other QB’s to know they aren’t the answer. Being able to have somewhat of a running game will go a long ways to Bailey’s effectiveness, but I do believe we will be able to tell if he’s the answer going forward in the next couple of games.

Keep Bailey in the game (barring injury). I'd equate success for Bailey in this particular scenario as establishing a rhythm, making good reads, and minimizing mistakes whether the stats are there at the end or not.

Realize that the 11 guys on the other side of the LOS are human and thus fallible, and are bound to be out of position or screw up at some point...be ready to identify those moments and capitalize on them. Maximize the "attaboy" moments and minimize the "oh sh*t" moments.

First: Coming out of the game healthy
Second: Level headed play with no turnovers
Third: Take the team to a couple or three TDs. (I figure Fla. will score enough TDs for HB to have many chances)

I would consider if successful if the team has fight, looks like their are into the game, and rally behind him. REGARDLESS of the score or interceptions or questionable passes initially.

I will say however with Florida's defense... it would be smart to try several long pass plays to pick up big chunks of yards on them

I'm more worried about our D this Saturday than our offense (if HB is the QB)

Grantham is going to blitz every play with a new quarterback. You know that. You should have slants and hot routes warmed up. TE down the middle.

This defense will get better with a competent QB. Just watch it unfold.
